    Rewrite and Personal News

    Hey all,

Just wanted to let you guys know of a decision regarding "Beat to Quarters", as well as some good news on the homefront. First, regarding BtQ. I don't currently have any work done on the next chapter. It's going to stay that way for a while, because I'm planning to rewrite/edit much of the already published portion. Why, you may ask?

    New chapter

New chapter of "Beat to Quarters" is complete, and I don't have a pre-reader anymore, so all I need to do is format it to this site. Expect to see it tonight or tomorrow.

    EDIT: It's up.

    Cheers,

    Of Writings and Blockages

Yeah. Writer's block. I have it. The worst part is, I find myself writing, but not for the story I'm really attached to (that'd be Beat to Quarters). I've even started the sequel, and I haven't even finished the damn story yet. Sorry I'm so slow at updating, and fear not, I haven't forgotten you guys or the story. It's just coming along slower than I expected.

    Flying back to Benning

I'm flying back to Ft. Benning today to finish out my Army training. This will be as before, no internet and no writing (like I was writing anyway). I'll be back online Feb. 1 when I get to my permanent duty station.

Here's how it is... · 5:24pm Sep 11th, 2013

The Earth got used up Wait, no, that’s wrong. Take two.

I’m heading to basic training on Monday. Hopefully there will be one more chapter this week which will wrap up one of the cliffhangers from last chapter. There will be no updates until at least the middle of December. I will be back to my writing as soon as I’m done getting screamed at and learning how to drive tanks.

I'd like to say a few things to my followers/readers.

First, you're all awesome. I've received so much feedback on this story, both good and "nyemt wut u doin", and it's really helped me grow as a writer. I have no formal education on the subject, so your feedback, all of it, has been absolutely essential.

Second, you guys really sold me on this fandom. I'm a relatively new member of the 'herd', and I thought Fimfiction was a giant hugbox full of slice of life stories and Halo crossovers. It is, but you guys (and gals) have proved that there's at least a few people who will give an off-the-wall idea a chance, and maybe even enjoy it.

And third, I just told you all how awesome you are, but you need to know there's someone even more awesome than you. psp7master, that guy who writes all those awesome TaviScratch stories. If there is one goal I strive for, it's to be both technically competent and accessible to my readers. He's pretty much the paragon of both these virtues. He also agreed to read the first chapter of "Beat to Quarters" when I oafishly sent it to him with no notice, and has since agreed to be my 'official' pre-reader for the story. If that isn't in the spirit of our fandom's motto to "love and tolerate" (and also a mark of superhuman patience) I don't know what is. Go read his work, without his inspiration I would never have written "Beat to Quarters".

This turned out far longer than I wanted it to be, but I wanted to make everyone who enjoys my labor of love aware of just how much I appreciate it. Fillies and gentlecolts, you rock.

Fair winds and following seas.

Basic...I remember that BS. You'll probably learn to drive tanks in your A school "Tech School as we call it in the Air Force" and you might have a little bit of internet time there. Basic is interesting...it was a good experience...but I probably wouldn't go back. :rainbowlaugh::rainbowlaugh:

Hope to see more updates when you return. I'd hate to se such an awesome story die!

Silver out!

You know, this is probably the reason behind my writing: such kind words from such kind people. In return, if it weren't for you, and people who say such wonderful, generous words, I would have never kept on writing stories.

P.S. Do remind me: did I send you the pre-reading notes for the latest chapter? A lot has been going on and I forget if I did.

Yeah, I was generalizing a bit.

Fear not, my good man, the entire framework of the story is complete. Chapters are already set up and named, and I know exactly what's going to happen from now to the end. I even know approximately how long it's gonna be. Just have to write it. :rainbowlaugh:

So, in a way, I contribute to your awesome fics? :yay:

Not yet. I understand you've got a lot on your plate so I haven't been bugging you. :twilightsheepish:

Oh, and was your blog post a parody of Aegis Shield's tips?

Nope, to Don Draper's Tips.

You've no idea how jealous I am, lol. I have literally dozens of (I think) good ideas for stories, but most of them are still in that nebulous gestational phase where I have only a vague idea of where I want to take them. I need to stop being such a lazy bum and actually power through my half-finished outlines.

Anyhow, best of luck.

Oh, believe me, I have my share of those as well. I currently have seven 'stories' on Fimfiction. Two have less than 1,000 words and are fairly directionless, four have zero words and are just concepts, and one is "Beat to Quarters". I was lucky enough to have an idea that stuck with me, but by no means is that the norm.

Anyhow, best of luck.

Thank you very much. :raritywink:
