You know, fillies and gentlecolts, before I got into this pony thing I wouldn't touch fanfiction with a ten-foot pole. Sure, I read through Repercussions of Evil, Full-Life Consequences and My Immortal (that was quite a feat, I've gotta tell you) in a pilgrimage to become more at-one with the lulz, but I never thought that any fanfic about any property ever was worthy of my attention.
I also never thought I'd be watching a girls' cartoon about ponies during my first year of university - unironically to boot.
So you can imagine my surprise when I finished all the season one episodes, started reading fanfic, and found out that a fair bit of it was not only worthwhile, but also really freakin' good. Fallout: Equestria, It's A Dangerous Business Going Out Your Door, The Logical Option and The Purloined Pony are just some of the delightful fics that led me down this rabbit hole.
And maybe you can take a further leap and imagine my surprise when I found myself writing the first chapter of my very own pony fanfic and submitting it here.
Don't get too excited though - it's a story about OCs that's unlikely to have much more than cameos from any ponies that you guys know and love. Please read it anyway, but just keep that in mind. This is my first fanfic, but not my first story ever: I completed NaNoWriMo in 2008, and have written about 40ish short stories of varying shortness (and quality). I'm afraid I'm still very much an original fiction author, afraid to muddy my hooves too much with other ponies' characters.
tl;dr: Confound these ponies! They drive me to fanfic!
