Story stuff and blog testing · 9:53pm Apr 7th, 2012
Howdy, Hyzy here. Mainly making a test post on the blog.
Anywho, chapter update is long. Coming soon hopefully. Decided to lump the whole slumber party together for a better flow.
Hopefully this blog sends this to all the readers.
Bleh, I'm terrible at blogs.
So, if any readers care to voice up I'd like to hear some opinions on AJ's dialogue.
Do you like it how I've been doin' it?
Or do ya'll prefer it if ah have her accent more pronounced?
And no, I don't write as well when I'm hungry like I am right now.
I don't like it when writers exaggerate on Applejack's accent, like, come on. Substitutions of G's using apostrophes is a good idea, using terms such as "mighty", or in contrast, "a mite" works as well. So does cutting down on overly complicated words (with subtlety, of course). I don't like it when the fic is littered with "Ah's" all over the place. So yeah, I do like how you've been doin' it.
Also, I love your icon. Twilight x Scroll is best ship.
67766 Holy Alicorn feathers! An actual response... I wondered if this post even went out to my trackers.
I settled on my current method to emphasize readability. I assumed that fans of the show should already know each character's voice.
I just see AJ written so many different ways across different fics that I was just curious about reader preferences.
Thanks for taking the time to respond.
And yes, I do ship TwiScroll
92462 Well, if you need help with AJ's accent or phrases you happen to be talking to a genuine Texas boy here.
Sure, blogs look all fun and cool to type up when your reading someone else's. But try it yourself and WHAM!!! It mugs you for all of your creativity. Hell, it probably is off try'n to steal you car as we speak.
As far as accents go: They're nice in moderation, but far too often I see authors laying it on far too thick. If I have to break out my Navajo Code-Talker just to figure out what the hell a character is saying, it makes the story really annoying to read, usually to the point where I just skip reading that characters lines. Best rule of thumb is to treat it like a spice for a meal. Add a pinch every now and then to remind the reader they have the accent, but otherwise leave off.
Back to blogs, because no-pony tells me how to arrange my thoughts. Anytime you post a blog, anyone that is currently 'following' you will get a nifty little red marker up in the corner telling them that you have spoken, and that they should get their stone tablets ready.
Um... What else...
Oh yeah! Twi x Scroll. Would pay to see. Do eet!
Best of luck on the new chapter,
-Dagg
92963 Heh, can't say I've considered that idea for a fic. Hmm, might make a goofy little one-shot. Now I'm gonna have to see what ideas I can come up with for it..
Edit: Oh, man I already know what I want to do with this idea. Soon as I come up with a reason for a massive checklist I'm gonna write this.
