The Discordian's Daughter...complete? · 3:35am Aug 16th, 2013
Greetings, Everypony!
As you may have noticed, I have marked my fic, The Discordian's Daughter, as complete. For the record, this is not in error. This is the actual ending point I had intended from the beginning.
I would like to thank each and every pony who favorited and/or read this story so far. I couldn't be more grateful. This was my first time doing a fan fiction of any kind, MLP or otherwise and I really wasn't sure how this would go. I am so happy that all of you gave a complete newbie like me a chance.
Almost as soon as I marked the story "complete", though, I noticed the comment section blew up with ponies asking several questions about it. Rather than answer each and every post and potentially getting dragged into multiple conversations, I decided to make this blog post and answer them all at once.
WARNING: This post assumes you have read the story completely. Spoilers abound.
Here are my responses to the three most common questions:
1. Why does Willow talk like a hippie despite being from Pre-Celestia times?
I imagined the Discordians (and consequently, their children) to be a very hippie-like group. They believe happiness is attained through chaos and thus they have a very liberal "anything goes" mentality. Thus, they would probably speak in a similarly lazy, slang-ridden form of English.
Some have noted that Luna, who is also from the same time period, speaks much more formally. I argue this is not just because she is from another time, but rather because she was from another time and she was upper-class.
Additionally, cultural things like slang can be cyclical, and just because ponies spoke a certain way in one era does not mean that they would never start speaking that way again.
2. What was Princess Celestia's problem in Chapter 10?
Princess Celestia has been called Trollestia before and has occasionally in the show displayed very impish behavior. Thus, I stand by my work and argue that her actions in this chapter are completely in-character.
3. Will there be a sequel?
And here is the big question. All I will say now is that I left the story open-ended for a reason. That reason may reveal itself in time, but it likely will not be soon.
I hope that clears up at least a few things. Again, thank you so much for reading. You have no idea how much that means.

>TFW a good story ends
>TFW you have three other stories to read before you can finish it
>MFW my life
>Trollestia
There is a difference between relatively benign trolling and the rather capricious act of instilling sheer undiluted terror into someone via the very real impression that not only are they completely at your mercy, but that you fully intend to show them none.
>Complete
Haha, no. It’s not complete. You may have finished writing it, but that there is no conclusion; if you had interspersed the story with more sections from the journal — enough so that it would be as much about her father as it is about her — then the ending would be compelling, a mystery solved as well as a ray of hope. As it is, the extended fight scene actually detracts from the story in the sense that it dilutes the focus from TDD being as much about her father as it is about Willow into TDD being about Despise, with Willow and her father acting as little more than backdrops.
All that said, I did enjoy this story a lot and want to see an actual conclusion — whether it comes from actually completing the story or writing a ‘sequel’, I care not; I’ll simply append the ‘sequel’ to my local copy of TDD’s EPUB.
Godspeed.
