The Document of Pony Gear Solid: Chapter Edits · 7:50am Apr 4th, 2012
That awkward moment when you're going through your Google docs, and you discover that you still have the original version of the first chapter uploaded. The one that Equestria Daily rightly refused to publish for sucking so much. I think I'll publish that as bonus content once the story's over.
I've gone through the first five chapters and edited them. Most of the changes are cosmetic, but there are a number of minor retcons that it might behoove you to know about. Let's run through them briefly
Prologue
-The spiritual influence of the Gateway of the Sun on Snake has been scaled back. He no longer gets the OOC compulsion to genuflect. I apologize to Hideo Kojima for doing that to his character and promise to never ever do it again.
-The age and content of the island base has been altered somewhat. As the story's concept has evolved over time, it's become necessary to re-read earlier chapters to see where the new concept clashes with the old. The nature of the base is one of those things, but we'll get into that when the time comes.
-The Sci-Fi reference that Otacon makes has been changed to Stargate, because what it was before was too obscure for anybody but myself to understand it. Plus, this way I get to make a Kurt Russell joke.
Can't Say Goodbye to Yesterday
Almost entirely cosmetic. Why didn't anybody tell me I had so many ridiculous typos in that chapter? I felt so embarrassed when I re-read it.
On the Ground
More cosmetic changes, though there's a small retcon in a later chapter that's necessary to plug a minor plothole, all for the sake of preserving a joke. I'm committed.
A Host of Sorrows
-The only change of any note is that the manticore no longer attacked the castle occupied by Pegasus Wings. Instead, it ambushed a patrol deep in the forest (closer to Ponyville than the castle). I had trouble justifying how Snake could hear gunfire coming all the way from the castle, when he was at Sweet Apple Acres, so I moved the location of the attack so that it was slightly more plausible. It's still a stretch, however.
Life's End

The next chapter is currently being edited and re-written, and I hope to have it up sometime tomorrow. Thanks for all your patience, guys!
You been busy.
