Pretty sure they didn't found a planet... that or I missed the part in the play about the spaceship, twice.

But yeah absurd, disproven by canon, "Equestria is the planet" aside... definitely need a follow up showing Sweetie Belle lecturing the whole town with her trusty steeddictionary.

Where do you see 'country' in there?

Season 1, Episode 1, 27s in, it refers to Equestria as a KINGDOM.
Kingdom: - A country with a king as head of state
Country: - A nation with its own government, occupying a particular territory.

Here in the wiki it is called both a country and a kingdom.

The official map of Equestria shows a single landmass surrounded by oceans with arrows pointing off map across said oceans to other lands.

Please at least provide some supporting reference or argument other than 'nuh uh'. There is really no way to have a valid discussion with 'uh huh'/'nuh uh' arguments.

The planet was called Equestria before they founded the country. They just liked the name so much they said "Screw it, let's just call the country Equestria as well!". > inb4 Inception jokes

Did I not mention the fact that this is my headcanon? I guess in hindsight I should have — after all, it would have saved both of us a lot of trouble.

EDIT: Whoops, I forgot to answer your question about the other races. No, I'm not ignoring them. Given the fact we rarely see them in the show, I think it is safe to assume that ponies are the dominant species. Therefore the other races wouldn't, or maybe even couldn't, have a problem with the planet being named 'Equestria'.

*sigh* I confronted with canon, he challenged my evidence, I brought more canon that proved beyond reasonable doubt and he hides behind headcanon... but only after he is proven wrong. Of course that headcanon was debunked after only 26s so I'm not sure why he has it.
