Very occasionally, I post pony stories. Twilight Sparkle is the best pony. I drink my tea with milk, no sugar. Those would be the important bits.

Quick straw pole to those who have read "Muddy Hole": is it comedy? Should it be tagged as such? · 1:29am Jul 29th, 2013

So "A Muddy Hole" was originally tagged as just [slice of life], but I'm wondering [comedy] could be justified too. I ended up putting in lots of moments that are simply there to make the reader laugh, even though the central theme, the idea that I started out with, is serious. But comedy can certainly tackle serious themes, indeed, some of the best are the best because they do so.

I don't know. I'm very on-the-fence here. Straw pole?

Although the funny bits were funny, I'd still say the point of the story is its slice-of-lifeness. So I don't think a comedy tag is warranted - anymore than the sad bits require a sad tag.

I'd say that it's more of a slice-of-life than a comedy, but the extra tag wouldn't hurt. Sometimes, life is funny.

I would be perplexed if I were to go into reading it with a comedy tag in mind. It's "funny", yes, but hardly comic. Definitely slice of life, I'd say.

Okay, between these and an emailed response from Bradel, I think I've been told. It doesn't warrant the tag. Thanks for the quick responses, I'll go remove the tag.

I don't know, I've seen a lot of stuff that was less funny with that tag. About the only thing that guarantees Exactly What It Says On The Tin is the Gore tag. :pinkiesad2:

I see the issue has already been decided, but I'd throw in that tags aren't really there to represent every element contained within the story. Any story can have a few gags in it, but to be classified as a "comedy", the funny would have to be the primary purpose of the story, and in this case, it's very much not. Similarly, there can be romance in a story not centered around the relationship in question, and that would not warrant a "romance" tag.
