A 'grown up' Featherweight fic.
He works for Ponyville's newspaper and is a failing photographer, not through any fault on his own. The paper begins layoffs, and he is at risk for losing his meager job.
He comes home to a sickly sister every night, clinging on to his job to keep her healthy. He's malnourished, tired, exhausted, but most of all afraid that he'll lose his only source of income for his sister.
His boss alerts him to an opportunity: The Princess is allowing reporters and photographers from all around the country to come and take a tour of Tartarus itself to alleviate recent fears that have sprung up from the mass amount of rumors that spread around about the dungeon. Even with the open invitation, many reporters and photographers are too fearful to go. Featherweight of course takes the opportunity the first chance he gets.
So they are in Tartarus when everything goes wrong and goes to hell. It turns out that many small cults and gangs had planned together to cause chaos there, thus unearthing some of Equestria's most dangerous enemies and monsters. Most of the reporters and photographers are killed, with Featherweight of course being an exception due to his stealthy nature. He escapes and flees back home, only to realize in dismay that he had lost his camera back in the dungeons of Tartarus.
He is fired.
That night, while tossing and turning in bed, vivid dreams begin to fill his head. Dreams of murdering his boss, burning the town to the ground, violent, hateful thoughts.
After a frustrating day of searching for new jobs only to come to a dead end, he is mobbed by a pony thug on his way back to his home.
A struggle ensues, a struggle which he should clearly lose due to his naturally weak body structure. Instead, he fights back rather easily, until finally black tendrils sprout from his body, wrapping around the thug and snapping his neck. The tendrils then turn back, beginning to creep up his legs and cover his whole body in a strange, sickly black.
As he stands there, utterly horrified at the murder yet thankful for this intervention, a slithering, venomous voice fills his mind, asking him if he could begin to even IMAGINE what he could do, the amount of wealth and fame he could earn with such power...
Meanwhile, rumors begin spreading of rising cultists utilizing strange powers, gangs controlling unexplainable monsters, and a dark, forboding future for all of Equestria.
Kindred Spirits at 16.5k words. Almost coming to the end of this chapter. Thank you for the wait.
That sounds... eerie.
I like the sound of it - some weird creepy symbiotic demon-parasite thingy infesting poor little Featherweight?
Do it!
And good job on Kindred Spirits - I'd wait months as long as it came out eventually

Hmm a concept like that could borrow from all the classics. Your description mostly brought to mind the Symbiotes from Spiderman, but I'd say aspects and lore from things like Spawn, The Darkness, Shadow Man, and Ghost Rider could be blended in for great effect.
Haven't swung by the chapter in a while. I will later if there's time.

Just remember: The Ghost Rider has been retconned into a parasitic Avenging Angel now. As a fan of "Dark is not Evil/Light is not Good", I cackled madly with mirth when THAT bombshell was unleashed upon comic book lore. /)^3^(\
Sounds interesting to me.

Cool, but really, current canon of sources being borrowed from is irrelevant.
Hooo ma gurrrr~!! Sorry for that but I'm just excited for the next chapter. Been pondering about it for a while. SpikexGilda? SpikexRarity? Man idk.
Ghaaaaa! I NEED MY GILDA FIX! Why do so few people make good Gilda stories D:
I cannot wait for the next chapter of Kindred Spirits. I need some Gilda! Even if she isn't the protagonist, shes a major character and we sometimes see from her point of view. ITS GOOD ENOUGH I JUST NEED SOME GILDA!! Please, I can't wait much longer!
