The Tale of Crimson Star

This is the tale of Crimson Star,
The pony who became a great Royal Guard.

Long ago, in the badlands west,
An astronomer pony was doing a test.
His nephew had come from Canterlot,
To enjoy the foalhood he never got.
The observatory in which the foal stayed,
Fell victim to a bandit raid.
And the foal was taken away from his kin,
And thrown into a wicker bin.

The bandits carried the foal away,
And began to lash him, night and day.
"Use your magic!" The bandits demanded,
Not knowing what little power he commanded.
The young unicorn struggled, and tried all he might,
Until he gained a spell of great sight.
Using this spell, he endured his pain,
Knowing what, in the end, he could gain.

Finally, into his teens the colt grew,
And took control of the tribe using all that he knew.
"To death!" He demanded, of those who gave
Him such long and cruel tortures, their fates were so grave.
Thinking himself superior, he became great in mind,
He led the bandits courageously, great treasures did they find.
For years he silently raided the countryside,
And the forces of Canterlot thought all bandits had died.

Until one day, the unicorn made a terrible mistake,
And Celestia's royal crown, Crimson Star did take.
Knowing the depth of the error he made,
His forces fled, into shadows they fade.
The Princess pursued, quite in a huff,
But Crimson eluded her, using both trick and bluff.
A game of chase, these ponies did play,
And Crimson ran for three months and a day.

Eventually, though, Crimson's luck had run out,
And his forces were subdued with a royal shout.
Crimson was brought before the Princess of Sun,
To receive the judgement for the crimes he had done.
His only request was to let his tribe free.
"They were just following orders. Punish only me."
Twice to impress her with his heart and his mind,
The Princess offered a way out of his bind.

"You have a good heart, My Little Pony.
I will spare you your sentence, if you come to serve me."
Surprised Crimson was, and agreed to the offer,
But on the condition that his tribe also serve her.
And on that day, Crimson joined the Guard,
Serving Equestria, and working hard.
There is no question where his loyalties lie,
It is with the Princess, the equal in his eye.
