Am I doing this right? · 8:28am Mar 26th, 2012
Blog posts, huh? Let's see how this goes.
Hey everyone, I'm working on a lot of different projects right now and hopefully you're enjoying at least one of them.
I had a quick question for those of you more acquainted with the system here on FiMFiction.net:
I'm almost done with a second kind of snapshot Twinkie fic (just a short little one-shot of them after they've been dating a while) and I'm wondering if I should just upload it as another chapter to Alliteration, change the title to something like "Snapshots", and just name the chapters what I would call the fics themselves if they were stand alones. Alternatively I would just upload this one as it's own story and just make it another one shot.
What would make more sense?
If you're going to write a bunch of 'snapshots' then having them in the one place for ease of reading would probably be better. Think of it as a short story anthology?
If you're not planning on having more than the current two then I'd post them stand-alone. If you ever write more you can always reorganise them.

Good thought.
After working on it for a while last night it's clocking in at over 5,000 words so it's become less of a snapshot and more of a stand alone, but the possibility of a short story anthology is kind of fun. I like keeping my options open.
How am I so bad at reading notices? 2 days late?
Anyway I agree with Starfall for what it's worth.
I can tell you what I've done, if that's helpful. I've written a boatload of Rainbow Pie, lots of shortish pieces (under 1500 words), so I created a collection just for my short Rainbow Pie stuff that exists as a single story. I also have a collection for short non-Rainbow Pie shippy stuff, too. My rough guideline is that if it's under 2500 words, it goes into the existing stories collection; if it's over that, it gets to be its own stand-alone story.
Really interested to see where "Dissertation of Affections" is going, by the way. Lots of great potential there.

I like the way you think.
It's getting a bit ridiculous though. The story in question here is now almost 7,000 words and I don't know when it's going to actually be done. It's a monster growing out of control and I think it'll probably need some heavy editing. It was only supposed to be a little thing! But I can't contain it!
I'm excited for the direction of "Dissertation" as well. I really hope I don't screw it up because I have high hopes for it.

Ha! I so totally feel you on that. I realized, after I finished my RariPie story, that not only did it end up being the longest MLP story I've written, it is the longest of ANY fan fiction story I've written. And I was all, "HOW DID THIS HAPPEN."
Whoo, "Dissertation"! I highly doubt you'll screw it up.
