Welp, I've lost all interest in it.
It's really the "Twilight meets a bunch of humans who are remarkably similar to her friends but not her friends" thing that pushes it over the edge. Change that one detail and I might be willing to give it a chance, but as it is, just... meh. It doesn't even look godawful. Beyond that one detail that fills me with a billion unanswerable questions, it just looks to be generic girly cartoon fare. I'll watch it because I have to for the sake of something I'm working on, but really? I have absolutely zero enthusiasm. It looks like it's gonna be boring and generic.
I will give it one thing, though - at least it looks like Sunset Shimmer or whatever is actually gonna be the villain and not another member of the main cast, which is good because seriously, fuck that.
Actually, I've gotta be honest, I had the exact opposite reaction to that trailer -- I went in with no expectations at all one way or the other, but came out of it looking forward to what's coming up! And I mean, don't get me wrong, I don't think we've got an unexpected masterpiece heading our way (the first My Little Pony movie since the mid 80's and it barely even features ponies? Huh?), but for what it's worth it looks as though it might be fun
Also, I just know that it's the sort of daft premise that younger-me would've flipped for if I'd been into ponies at the time... though mind you, younger-me's favourite film was also the 1998 remake of Godzilla. That alone would make going back in time to give myself a massive slap entirely justifiable...
1096903 ... To be fair, I also liked the '98 Godzilla. And I liked the League of Extraordinary Gentlemen movie. So there's no accounting for taste and at least the former is a guilty pleasure while I've come to understand just how bad the latter is with age.
I'm still gonna be watching it for the sake of something I've got in the works, though.
