Regarding the Lauren Faust Q&A on Twitter and some other things. · 12:49am May 5th, 2013

So Lauren Faust has been answering questions on twitter about pony for donations to the Wildlife Center Indiegogo, and a couple of them have invalidated parts of "A Tale". The biggest one being that Celestia and Luna have always been alicorns.

I'm not going to change anything though. I like the way the story turned out, and changing it for every little inconsistency would be absurd. As it is, it fits in with Meghan's current line of thinking that becoming an alicorn is something a pony earns.

If I were to change anything, it would be making Celestia an earth pony and Luna a pegasus. Mainly to fit in with the theme of a princess for each tribe, and to accommodate the fact that any race can ascend.

Speaking of any race can ascend. I'm going to leave the state of the mane six in Her Happily Ever After for you guys to decide. When I wrote the story I didn't think they were alicorns, but I left them ambiguous for reason.

Story Update: Writing is about two thirds done on When Stars Dream's finale. You guys are in for treat if it is any where as good as it sounds in my head right now.

Oh and the official synopsis for Equestria Girls also came out this week. It's not as bad as I thought it would be.

Eh. It's always been my stance that canon comes from the TV show. Not word of god, or twitter, or the comics.

"Isn't in the show, then it don't matter."

And personally, fanfiction is usually better quality stories than the show anyway. So I'd rather fanfiction doing what they need to make a good story, rather than constrain itself.

I saw the Q&A as well, and while I do generally take Lauren Faust's word as Holy Writ I will ignore it in the case that Celestia and Luna have always been Alicorns. To much on my headcanon has been invested in them being mortal and were born Earth Ponies

Ya once the story is set, I have zero intention of ever changing it besides fixing grammar and spelling mistakes.

I used to try fitting my fanon as close to canon as possible but after a while I find it rather futile, so I do multiple universes now. More rewarding and allows greater creativity and exploration.

If you go by the books Cadence was a Pegasus before she became an alicorn.

Yes, that's why I'm thinking there is chance for the rest of main six to also become alicorns, and that McCarthy has maybe moved past that part of show bible. Thus my little blurb about them in the blog.

Cadance would also be the crystal pony tribe's princess, but she couldn't be a crystal pony herself since there weren't any till the Empire returned. I'm guessing Berrow went with her being a pegasus because Fluttershy is one, and she embodies the closest thing to love in the elements.

1055612 Interestingly enough I think one of the trading cards for her and Shining Armor said they represented the Element of Love so that would certainly make sense.

It's pretty clear to me that McCarthy doesn't think twice about deviating from Faust. The only place where we've seen Faust's canon shown is the IDW comics, which aren't canon either.

Personally my head cannon is that they were always "godesses" but didn't have the horns and wings right off.

Also while it's the obvious route, who says that ascended automatically means alicorn? That has always seemed sorta lazy to me. There are way more interesting ways to go. Though obviously there is so much symbolism to Twi becoming like her mentor you can't just skip that without a really good reason.
