Utter Madness (story excerpt and other stuff) · 11:16am May 1st, 2013
A while ago, in my post asking for challenges, I mentioned that there was this little project of mine that was still in the early stages of development. I'm still looking for a beta reader and will be until further notice. Remember that I want a beta reader who will be brutally honest, who isn't afraid to suggest major plot changes and who is entirely willing to just tell me outright that I'm being too silly. Anyway, if you're interested PM me for more details. Without further ado, here is the first section of Utter Madness.

It was a day like any other in the quiet little town of Ponyvile. Dusk Shine was idly flipping through books that would make any other pony’s head spin and wondering vaguely why there had been those stupid rumours about him sprouting wings. If I were to grow wings, he thought, wouldn’t I be the first to hear of it?
Outside, Bubble Berry was defying physics as usual and Rainbow Blitz was probably off doing something stupid that would undoubtedly dump his sorry rump in the care of Butterscotch. To the careful observer, it might become apparent that he did a lot of stupid things that wound him up in the care of Butterscotch. What made this very strange was the fact that he would probably get much more professional care from the hospital, but he kept on showing up on Butterscotch’s doorstep, battered and bruised with what looked like a sprained wing. But more of that later.
Right now, it’s just about to occur to our dear Dusk Shine to do something monumentally stupid for such a smart unicorn.
“Ok guys, I bet you’re all wondering why I called you here today.”
Rainbow Blitz sighed. “Not really. You’re always calling us together, usually to save Eqestria from one or other of the slightly implausible number of terrible threats that seem to come our way. It’s been nearly a week since the last one so it was about time. I had it marked on my calendar.”
Feeling that this was probably steeling poor Dusk’s thunder, Elusive shot Rainbow a nasty look.
“What? I was just telling the truth.”
“Well I see you didn’t clear flying in to a brick wall off your calendar for today so you couldn’t have been that prepared.”
Rainbow, and surprisingly Butterscotch, flushed a little at that. (See, told you I’d come back to that later.)
“Please, carry on Dusk, dear.”
“Eh hem,” said Dusk, rather pointedly. “I’ve found a spell that has a rather random looking effect. It seems totally unpredictable and rife with ways to backfire and do something totally unexpected. So far, I can’t tell what the spell is actually supposed to achieve so I’ve decided to cast it and I need you all here for no very good reason other than in case something weird happens.”
They all nodded so Dusk proceeded to light up his horn and do something that caused a bang and several words that will be removed from text as they were spoken by Applejack when he was in no mood to guard his tongue. Suffice it to say that something bad happened.

So there it is, hope you liked it. One more quick note before I sign off, though: This challenge thingy is still open. As soon as it's no longer open I will make a post about it. So far, I'm thinking I might have to make a specific challenge thread. Hmm, not quite sure how to do that or even where... someone tell me?
May your day be full of ponies and Owl City.
Doing some ButterBlitz there?
1047104 That's right, I'm nothing if not predictable.

It wasn't that difficult to guess. Predictable, I would know not. It looks like you're my ButterBlitz competition... Kidding. I don't write to compete.
Yay! You're writing butterblitz too.
If you still want a beta reader, I'm interested. This looks like a cool story
