Dusk is Almost Upon Us

The first draft is finished. After five months of work, the Dusk Guard are almost ready to make their big debut.

It's been a long journey. 260+ thousand words worth of it, more in fact, once I count all the revision and editing, and flat out rewrites. There were a few chapters that took forever to get right.

But now it's done. Well, the initial draft is. The first few chapters, written before I'd published my book, were almost an experiment in remembering everything I'd learned over the years in getting my degree. Which means I can't read them without my soul giving physical pain. Which left me two options-lower my standards or rewrite the first few chapters. I went with the rewrite.

Luckily, it's not taking long, and it's making the finished product that much more concrete. Cover art is on the way. Fanart has appeared (see last post) which is amazing. I didn't ever expect to see something like that before the story was finished, let me tell you!

So I'd give it another week, maybe two, and then you'll all get to see what I've been working so much on (and yammering about). Personally, for me it's a big accomplishment. One of the reasons I did it was because I wanted to see if I could pull off a book that was above standard novel length. To my amazement, I pulled off a Epic length fantasy, which overjoys me to no end. Now that I've got a feel for it, I feel a lot more confident with my next published novel (which is tentatively titled The Phoenix" and is another story set in my "Unusuals" universe for those who read "One Drink"). It's aiming only at a 100K, and now that I've pulled off the Dusk Guard so well, I'm feeling pretty confident.
