Ever catch something that you have never noticed before?
I just had one of those moments watching Winter Wrap Up. I have seen it a bunch of times. Its a great show (with Awesome song!). Yet Spike says something at the very beginning that I always over looked...
Twilight pokes Spike a few times to wake him up. Spike mutters "Mommy ..." then looks up and sees Twilight then says "You're not mommy." almost like he was expecting to see someone else ... someone not Twilight ...
Spike did not think of Twilight as a mother figure at the beginning of the show and quite likely never did.
I am ashamed to admit it but ...
My headcannon ... she is broken... ;(
Although, his first instinct was to call her "Mommy", like how the first answer to pop into your head is usually the right one.
Spike's relationship with Twilight is the most important part of the show to me, and I'll be disappointed if Twilight's new coltfriend turns out to be part of the show, stealing time from her relationship with Spike. No easy words like "mother", "sister", or even "best friend" quite define their relationship.
I prefer to say that, whatever they are to one another he's her little one, and she's his big one.

as for the movie ... I am hoping that the male lead is voiced by Andrew Francis. Why? from pictures the character looks just like Gil (from Johnny Test). Andrew also does Shining so instead of a romance they could have something more like their relationship as ponies ... BBBFF and LSBFF
heck ... everyone else is there. Why not Shiny?

I missed that to, dang I though for sure he called her mommy. I didn't catch the second part first few times I saw the episode.
