Status Update and a Moment in Silence (if that's okay with you) · 6:46am Apr 6th, 2013

Well, hello, y'all presumably pony loving homo sapiens! Just wanted to take a break and maybe make a blog or something because heaven knows I can't actually just sit down and write what I actually want to write. I would growl disappointedly at myself but I can't seem to find the energy. Or a mirror. Anywoo.

For those of you that give a flying fungi-infested biscuit (and let's face it, there's probably only six of you that mildly do; and yes, that number already includes you, Pia), there has been basically no progression of any of my stories or ideas in any capacity. The reason is rather simple: I'm taking the MCAT on May 11th. As such, I have been studying to such a degree that I literally say 'disaccharide' when I mean to simply say 'sugar' and my mind has been plagued with terminology such as succinyl CoA and the workings of the cardiovascular and limphatic system and geez how much momentum does a rocket have when it explodes upon reaching a vertical peak where its velocity is zero and askdhgaskdhaslkdhsakldjsak.

So yeah, hopefully all six of you can sort of relate to my frustration. I kind of really wanted to at least finish Once Upon a Night before I take the test but every time I decide to take a break and open up the doc all I can think is 'oh dear vibrating Shiva I need more coffee and maybe a sexy poster of Luna I must browse deviantart oh hai rule 34 fancy seeing you here oh don't mind me you just keep doing your thing and I'll appreciate the thermodynamically conserved hell out of you.' It's an uphill battle for sure. Sighs.

Thus, that is the situation. I seriously doubt anyone is actually upset that my story hasn't been updated, but hey, weirder things have happened. Okay, no, that's not true. Ahem. I can only say things will go back on track once I tackle the monster that is standardized testing. Victory or fail, I will be able to refocus my attention on things that truly matter: colorful, animated ponies and the wondrous fanfics about how colorful and animated they are. And clop. And maybe rewatch FiW: Foaly Matripony. Then clop, again. But with an accompanying song. Truly, I embody the most noble virtues of our kind.

One last thing. Some of you may have noticed the title of this blog, and deduced that someone has passed on. And indeed, a man by the name of Roger Ebert, beloved film critic, died on Thursday in Chicago. If you don't know who that man is, well, then stop being such a twat and go read up on him. For those who do, I'm sure you've heard by now and there are plenty of tributes and articles about him popping up everywhere so I'm not gonna, pfft, educate you on who or what he did. I'm mainly doing this to see my own thoughts and feelings in writing and share those words with whomever. I'm not sad or anything; never met the man and don't know if he could be considered a great person or whatever. All I know is that I enjoyed his work; the passion that he imbued his words with, the sheer incomprehensible length he went through to convince others of his opinions and views about something that many consider to be just simple entertainment. I wish I had just a fraction of that energetic passion. Imagine the amount of fics I could have written with that drive.

And most importantly, I respected him. One thing that is inherently noticeable on the Internet is that people like to bitch at each other. Whether it's about controversial matters such as religion and politics that could be seen on certain youtube channels, or more inane things that could be found on this very site we inhabit, such as clop fics in the featured box, shipping wars, and whatever else. Everyone has something to say, and we rather dislike those disagreements to our opinions. Most of you probably do the same thing I do: avoid frivolous arguments on the Internet because by all that is holy and buttery it's a rather crappy use of valuable free time. Seldom has anyone ever convinced someone else that their opinion is worth more than the ink needed to put it into writing, and even less frequently do we ever garner respect by insulting each other. That's not the case with Ebert, though. You might disagree with his reviews about certain movies, but you will always value his opinion because somehow you just know his thoughts and opinions are worth something. I don't know what it is that makes it so; it's something metaphysical. All I know is that the man has my respect and my envy. He was a man who had a career and reputation built around the ultimate passion of his entire life, and people valued him for it. Isn't that what we all want? For our work, our thoughts, our words, to be worthy of notice and appraisal, despite the resulting judgment? At least, that's how I feel sometimes. I can only hope one day to leave an impacting legacy abstractly similar.

Here's to you, Mr. Ebert. I may not know the validity of the concept of an afterlife, but if there is truly such a thing, I hope you and Siskel can compare scores and bitch at each other about your reviews of the ephemeral but fun experience that is a human lifetime.

And to the rest of you, good night and good luck on all your endeavors. I will continue to do my best as well. : )

i feel your pain, and i know what you mean, as i´m been getting chewed out by my career even if i´m only mid way trough it :twilightblush:

soooooo, that means that weeks after May 11 we can expect an update from you? :pinkiehappy:

never hear of him but may Mr.Ebert rest in piece

P.S. best of luck and kick ass on your MCAT

Good luck with your exam.
Take care

Best of luck with your MCAT. I'm glad to hear that "Once Upon a Night" hasn't been dropped. No joke, but you are literally one of my top five favorite authors on this site. :raritywink: Here's hoping you'll also find time to proceed with "Fighting is Magical."

Too bad about Ebert. I don't wish to devalue the man, but I do wish there had been almost as much news when Pete Postlethwaite died two days after the 2011 new year. He had the multiple talents of being amazingly diverse, being utterly convincing, and making it all look easy.

Seldom convinced? Not tooting my horn here (much), but I've actually managed to convince three extremely talented people to make Spike a part of their works. One image, one comic, and one high adventure fanfic that's still in progress and updates weekly. I shall mask my smugness by using Applejack's much more appealing smugness: :ajsmug:

Thanks for taking the time to give us an update. We look forward to whenever you can get back to us.

darn it!
well i don't know who the heck that guy was... sorry, and no, i won't go and read about him because heh, i don't have time. But yeah, i can understand when somepony you enjoyed their work dies. It's like, hay, you won't even get to enjoy errr their work ever again! and yep, my speech sucks but that I just said in not very glorious words does suck a lot more.

So well sorry I won't draw a sexy Luna pic for ya, I only have drawings planned for best poneh :raritywink:, not 3rth best one (yep, because second is SB for me), so I'm sorry I can't help.
Just gotta wish you the best of the lucks! oh also our lil' project got delayed, now I remember about it. If I find the time I'll try to advance on it alone so you later can DESTROY IT!! MWAHAHAHAHAAA

yep.

So yeah, darn college... :raritycry:
