Personal Memoirs of 1st Lieutenant Parker Davis
We fled east, the fires of the burning city lighting up the sky behind us. Some later called the retreat organized, but I think it just seemed that way because we were all running in the same direction. We were moving as fast as we could with Charlie Company lagging behind. Bannon blamed the mud, but I think he was secretly hoping to get away from the Colonel.
It was around this time that we received word of the attacks on the other NATO nations, Emmeria and Equestria. It was hard to believe that we had been caught so off guard even when we knew war was coming for a while.
While the details were still sketchy, I was lucky enough to hear some information on my parents, who were both NATO Officers like me. My father was a Colonel in Equestria, helping in their defense against the Lunar invaders. My mother was not so easy to find out, but reports of a pilot called "Garuda One" was trying desperately to turn the tide of the Estovakian Offensive in Emmeria.
While I was happy to know they were still alive, we had our own problems.
Colonel Sawyer decided on a small town named Pine Valley too make our stand. If we didn't hold the Stovies here, we would lose the entire Northern coast, something that wasn't acceptable by anyone's standards. We were too dig in as hard as we could and wait for reinforcements, but first we had to take it back from supporting units of the Griffin Empire that had moved ahead of the Estovakian Main force.
Most of the men hadn't slept in 3 days, and the Colonel only allowed a few hours rest.
But I never heard a single complaint. We all knew what was at risk.
Pine Valley, Usea
4 days since invasion began
"Alright," Sawyer said, looking at his three officers. "Now that the town is secure, we need to get ready. Ivan is scheduled to roll in on all sides of us within a half hour. Major Applejack, I'm placing you on the southern end. There's a wide field to defend, so don't hesitate to call in fire support when needed."
"Y'all can count on us Colonel!" The Earth Pony exclaimed. "Those Commies ain't gonna break through!"
"Good. Captain Bannon, I'm placing your tanks to defend the gas station on the west side of town."
"But sir," Bannon protested. "Our treads are really beat up, I don't know how much longer we-"
"Captain, come with me for a second." The Colonel grabbed the man by his collar and dragged him too the other side of the street. Even through the noise of tanks and other vehicles rolling through the town, they could hear Sawyer shouting.
"BANNON! I DON'T CARE IF YOUR DAMN TREADS ARE SHREDDED! NOW I NEED YOU TO..."
Applejack winced, turning to Parker.
"Is the Colonel always like this?" She asked.
"Only to Bannon," The Lieutenant replied, shrugging. "And anyone else who pisses him off."
