My view on Season 3 Finale... [Rant] · 2:48pm Feb 18th, 2013
...mainly because I need to get stuff off my chest and since no one is following me. I won't have to worry about people getting pissed at me.
Having only joined the fandom at the end of season two, I had just enough time to thoroughly think things over on how I would guess the end of G4 MLP would go. I could tell right away that one day Twilight would become an Alicorn/Princess. I fully expected that was how to properly end G4, with the one thing that would stop her little exploit with her friends continuing. I mean it would be some epic two parter or even a three parter where at the end of saving the day for the final time, she would earn the right to become an Alicorn. Just image, Twilight and friends(maybe even Luna and Celestia) fighting every single foe they had ever faced just to save all of Equestria from out matched odds of sheer destruction. And at the end of it all, Twilight reaching the final peak of all magic, Alicorn status. All these thoughts were in my head before season three even aired.
When season three finally started I was happy to be at last able to watch the show along side the rest of y'all bronies. It started off a bit rocky with a plot hole here and there, but nothing that I didn't come to expect. I was very much enjoying the season as it went on. Then the rumors of Alicorn Twilight started to pop up, and the first thing that came to my mind was "Oh come on, they can't be ending the series as soon as I joined. Why am I always joining fandoms after the fact!" You can tell I was just pushing the rumors aside thinking it was just the bronies still thinking the fandom was over because it "seemed" like the MLP staff was spoon feeding us bits of our fandom. Which in all honesty I thought that only went to show how well us bronies new the characters so much that we could predict what the MLP staff would come up with.
Anyway, as the time passed and I heard it was in-fact the Finale of the season. Needless to say I started to panic like most bronies, however, I panic-ed because I thought it was to soon for it to happen and would only paint the MLP staff into a corner. {Which will only be dis-proven with season four when it starts.] I knew as soon as Twilight became a Princess that she would need a royal guard , which would stop her adventures from ever starting, because "Princesses need to be protected all the time blah blah blah." Okay, using "blah blah blah" may have just been my dramatic side talking there for a moment but you get what I am trying to say. Hear me out, say the following out loud: "I am a Princess now, so I am going to go back to being a small town Liberian where I get into all sorts of mishaps with my friends!" Now let it sink in... does that not just scream PLOT HOLE to you? If not, then you have a better imagination then I do.
However, I pushed my fears aside within two days for I have much faith in the MLP staff and what they do. So I stuck it out and just waited for the episode to come. I tried to watch it one the 16th, but the small bit a fear still hung inside me preventing myself from clicking play. Jump to the night of the 17th where I gained enough nerve to watch the whole thing. My first thought was this was good, a lovely little episode, but then after the songs faded from my mind I realized something. There was very little to no plot. The plot had seemed to be replaced by songs at every turn. Making it nothing more than a musical instead of a decent episode.
After a bit of me being stunned about no real plot I came to a realization that they had made the art of becoming an Alicorn as simple as the Elements of Harmony and a spell! All Twilight did was to save her friends from a spell she screwed up and yet that deemed her worth of being picked at that time to take on the job of being a Princess! Sure she has saved the day many times already, however, just by saving her friends from "her" mistake does she become even more, if not all, powerful?! It just seemed like Celestia went "Eeeh, I am bored now, so how about we make Twilight into a Princess!" And to top it all off, everyone and I mean everyone seemed to accept the fact that now she was an Alicorn to the point that it seemed like Canterlot was told ahead of time by Celestia to have everything set up for the moment.
In all honesty, I was expecting Twilight to wake up and it all end up being a dream. However, like always, my calm mind finally stepped in and pointed out that while it may indeed be one big plot hole, that it was now indeed cannon and I would have to live with it. Let's just say my "Calm" mind is an asshole. Whenever I try to understand the episode, it just begins to scream "For 4-8 year olds," yesh, this episode screams that it was made for the group of kids the series was made for. While the rest of the series screamed "I don't fucking care how old you are, have some good cartoons!"
When it came for me to rate this episode...I found myself placing it below the Trixie episodes, and that is saying something. For I despise Trixie with much of my being, as well as Twilight/Pinkie shipping, and yet, I am willing to read fics about Trixie and/or Twilight/Pinkie. Proving that I give the stuff I hate a bloody chance to make me like them. Opps, I am beginning to "Over Rant" in my rant. Well, to close up my long rant, I have to say that I had expected more from the show then what was given to us. In the end, I will keep watch MLP, because I still love it no matter what I think about the latest cannon.

I still haven't seen season 2 or 3. Just finished the episodes of season 1 the other day. I'm out of the loop big time. Which is why I only have one story, and probably won't write more, since I can't characterize canon (non-background) ponies for shit.

Firstly, sorry for taking so long to reply. I tend to lose track of time when I am enjoying a very good fic. Let me start off with my hope that you truly enjoy seasons 2 & 3 to the fullest. I am sure you will write more one day. If you are worried about characterizing canon ponies wrongly. I would suggest working with someone else, so you can share your idea of where you want a story to go and he/she can explain why a character would or would not do what you wanted. You can always work around to find a way to make a character do what you want of them without making them break canon. I would gladly help if you want. However, I when it comes to description details, I find myself lacking so I wouldn't be too perfect to help you. Though I would try my best.
About the watch, I decided to watch you back I found your idea for your story rare. Sadly I have not gotten to it yet. Once I do, I will comment right away about my thoughts, promise.

As for finding my story [idea] rare, that's a good thing. I wanted to do something [somewhat] original and breathtaking. Seeing as how you haven't read it yet, I can only hope it achieves what I've set out for it to do.
I'm currently working on an Octavia/Vinyl/Human Romance story idea (apparently I seem to have a knack for it), but that's as far as its gotten, since my mind has been in "scrambled eggs" mode for the past week and a half (writers block and indecision are a bitch
)
I find it easier to write background ponies, who don't have a lot of canon to work with; which makes it easier (for me, at least) to hash out how I think their character would be, and how they would act.
Once I get ideas for the Tavi/Scratch/Human story into some semblance of a chapter/story, I'd be more than honored to have you take a gander at it; It's the least I could do for you being so generous with your offer!

Your welcome, and lolz yes I say that blog and I love the pic. I am sure you can achieve it with time. Now about the Octavia/Vinyl/Human romance, since you are having writers block here is an idea. Instead of Octavia and Vinyl falling in love with the human, how about the human and one of the girls fall in love with the third one. There are so many two or more mares compete for the love of a human on the site. So having it this way would make your fic stand out, even if it is just a bit. Though it is just an Idea. Now I would be honored to take a look once you have the story flowing from your mind. Once again, I hope you get past your writers block, because I know how frustrating it can be.

I gotta say that I agree with you. I felt the episode was pretty rushed plot-wise and it really did have the feel of "This is made for pre-school girls" to it. I mean, I'm sure the target audience was ecstatic because someone becoming a princess is about as awesome as it can get for little girls, but for us older fans it was a bit of a meh. Good message for the princesshood though, what with Twilight achieving her status because of hard work (...if you ignore the whole ~destiny~ thingy that was a bit skewy because Celestia had it planned from the beginning, whether or not Twilight wanted it).
It also had too many songs for one episode, even though I personally love musicals. All the singing just seemed to come from nowhere, especially the beginning and ending song. There's foreshadowing and there's too much foreshadowing. The song at the start was the latter.
Don't even get me started with the plotholes and plain errors. I made the mistake of pointing the most obvious one (cutie marks vs. the jobs the ponies have. Their jobs are their destinies? And the jobs are what their cutie marks mean? : | Okay, whatever, but the episode was inconsistent about it anyway) out in the youtube video and of course I got told that I was wrong and when I gave them too hard questions that they'd have to answer before I'd say that I was wrong, they slapped me with the "you're taking this show too seriously!" card. I knew I shouldn't say anything, but I felt that I was so obviously right about it that I'd get a few "Ooh! I didn't even notice that!! Damn :DD" out of it. Silly me.

Sorry for the wait, was reading a lovely lil fic. I am glad that I had some valid points though at this time and date the only thing that really worries me are the plotholes. It is hard to make good fanfics of a show if the show has plotholes you know? Now about that cookie... I dont know...
