Why can't there be a 'then Twilight woke up and realized she wasn't actually an alicorn' story? lol But, yeah, you're right as that seems to be the new thing to write about...
I've never seen a "sad to be immortal" Luna story around yet. But that might be because, unlike Celestia, Luna would probably just suck it up. Having gonads doesn't make for much of a story.
