not really. it's called "fan" fiction for a reason. one episode does not have to make you change everything. why? because it's still your work as a fan.

But, later on down the road when this episode has become dated and everyone has settled into the whole "Alicorn Twilight" thing, people are constantly going to point out how Twilight is still a unicorn like nothing had ever happen. I always strive to stay current with the meta of the show, to make that mindset that my story is actually happening in the canon universe, in between all of these episode events, so just find it very off-putting to be writing about a character that has evolved to a different status... Like supporting Lance Armstrong as an athlete without noting how he cheated in all of his Tour de France victories.

I don't see a reason to really change it. I could even make a stupid scene where the ponies all go off and do something, then come back with Twilight being an alicorn... and they're just like "....wtf?"

Well, what I meant was, if at some point in the story you refereed to her as a unicorn you could change that to Alicorn. Also I believe there was a brief physical description, so you might want to mention wings there.
