First of all, yay, I got my entry back!
I may or may not have mentioned before, but I'm a feedback junkie, and it was seriously driving me crazy not to have any idea how Autumn Leaves (the story I submitted) was doing. Finally, with the story returned to me, I was able to see how I did.
Now, I didn't win, and I didn't expect to. I didn't even get close to winning, it looks like! But I've finally been able to re-read the story and I can see why. It lacks a bit of punch... there is a large amount of it that was so much better in my head than I was able to get down in the story. I have to say, though, that overall I'm satisfied with it. Not thrilled, but satisfied. I think it's a solid story that needs a bit more detail, and better pacing throughout. Even though I've got some ideas that could improve it, I'm going to leave it as-is (at least for now), just cleaning up some grammar errors that I noticed.
Anyway, it's fairly short, a little darker than my usual stuff, but if anyone wants to read it and let me know what they think (good OR bad; constructive criticism is even more valuable than praise, though it's not as fun to get!) then I would be most appreciative.
I really hope this contest becomes a regular thing... with or without the prize money (if I had won, I would have donated the prize). I had a lot of fun with this, and though I probably wouldn't want to do this every month, I'd definitely like to do it again!
As always, thanks for reading, and have a wonderful day!
