Reception to Fluttershocked · 1:24pm Mar 2nd, 2012

I just wanted to step up and say thank you to everyone for you kind comments! I worked really hard on this fic and had a great time making it. It does my heart good to know you all like it. I'd like to take this post to address a few things.

Keep the corrections coming! I'd love to do a proofreader exchange!

It was a one shot. There will not be a sequel, as it was intended all along for the shocking ending. It leaves one with 2 horrifying possibilities: Fluttershy knew and was trolling Twilight for peeking, or Fluttershy didn't know and is about to get shocked all over again. It's up to the reader to decide. I'm not going to explore what would happen if Fluttershy became Dash's new stepmother. I think that would be a great premise, as it would serve as a foil to both ponies. If someone else wants to take that and run with it, go ahead.

I did take a conceit with Twilight Sparkle. I had her panicking throughout the story as an excuse to move from set piece to set piece. I believed that Twilight would describe sexual intercourse the way it would be done in a romance novel. I'm not a big reader of those, so it was I did my best.

I would like to make more fics. I'm not an M. Night Shyamalan for am I a Rod Serling. I'm not going to be defined by twists. I do love them, but I think characters are much more important. I build my stories on 3 tenants:

1. Keep the reader clamoring for new information, not the character
2. Plan ahead for your 2nd Act/ Death Valley
3. Keep building the world, repeating actions and descriptions help give a setting to the story. I see no reason why you can't build troupes within a singular story. In short, I like to pay off everything Act 1 by the end of Act 3.

In terms of fan writing, I have to additional rules;
Keep the main cast
Make new episodes, not long stories.

I remember watching a behind the scenes documentary on Star Trek the Next Generation. That show was unique in that accepted fan scripts and used them in the show. The writers said the main problem with 90% of the fan scripts is they focused on new characters from out of the blue. The submissions that made it onto the show were ones that stuck the main cast. Because of this, I like to only right fan works that center on the main cast of the show. I think it's the best way to connect with the audience and give them something they'll like.

It's all about the readers.

Look for a new fic next week where we learn a dark secret about Rarity!

I'd like to end today with a bonus, here are the songs I listen to while writing:
Love me Cheerilee
Smile! Electro Pop remix
Putting it Together, Sim Greta Remix
Good ol' Days, Living Tombstone
Beyond her Garden, Mic the Microphone
