The CMC's should get their marks · 7:38am Jan 22nd, 2013
I know the crusaders are supposed to represent self discovery and the great potential to be anything we want to be while growing up. And all that is supposed to be deep and meaningful for younger viewers. But I can't be the only one who thinks that after three seasons they should have their marks by now.
I would have thought Hasbro would do it, if only to sell a new generation of CMC figures - Now With Cutie Marks!
As I was thinking on this a random thought occurred, which snowballed and gave me an answer which could make everypony happy. Those who want the CMC's to just get their cutie marks already! and those who want them to stay the representatives of self discovery for all young people with potential.
Give the CMC's a huge adventure to themselves. I mean full, feature length, adventure. The image that came into my mind was a Temple of Doom-like adventure involving Diamond Dogs, kidnapped ponies and the CMC's in the place of Indy, short round and Willie.
So many random, wild, funny and all around AWESOME things happen on such a huge adventure that the girls will not notice when they get their marks (though I imagine we, the audience could be clued in). They won't know until the end, after the diamond dogs are beaten, the slaves are freed and the girls are heading home.
We all know Cutie Marks aren't a direct image of a special talent but more symbolic. Some are obvious, like Lyra's lyre mark - depicting her musical talent. Others however need a little more working out, like Cheerilee's smiling flowers. If she hadn't told everypony how it represents her hope to help her pupils bloom and the happiness it would bring, it could be hard to work out the symbolism.
Long story short, even though the girls get their cutie marks it doesn't have to be immediately obvious what their special talents are.
They now have to work out what their marks symbolise. Though they have a clue they have to keep testing themselves to try and work out exactly what their special talents could be, also possibly have a little fun on the way.
Conclusion: The Cutie Mark Crusaders get their cutie marks - that section of the fans are happy.
But they continue their journey of self discovery - that section of the fans are happy.
They went on a huge, epic, awesome, hilarious adventure - all the bronies are happy!
Just because they get their marks, doesn't mean the journey has to end.
(come on, not bad for an idea that grew out of one random thought that hit my tired brain at 6:43AM - yes, that was the time, I checked.)
Problem is that if they get cutie marks, they loose reason to go and get into trouble/adventure, and become normal, uninteresting ponies (you know like Applejack). And then writers will have to think of more bullshit ways to include them, than they already do (maybe its just me thinking the shows writing is going downhill).
An interesting idea but it just wouldn't be plausible it's to complicated and would be to much work.
Also there is that thing about how nopony ages at all so once you age the cmc you have to age the rest of them and it just goes down hill from there.
The last CMC episode they should get their cutie marks and Scootaloo should learn how to fly.
Also, before FiM ends, Rainbow Dash needs to join the Wonderbolts and Rarity needs to be discovered. Various other things that my sleep deprived mind can't think of also need to happen.

738774 The CMC don't have to age to get cutie marks. The rest of their class is the same age, and they all have cutie marks.

Ageing is a sketchy issue but we do know that there is a passage of time in the show. We've had references to amounts of time between events, for example a certain amount of time between Trixie's first visit and her return with the Alicorn amulet. Gummy has turned 1, and the baby Cake twins are at least a month old.
How much time passes in episodes, or between episodes is open for debate though. I'll admit that.
I agree with the general message but I don't agree with the notion that they should get their cutie marks without really realizing what their special talent is. It's a bit of a cheat and unnecessary. Them realizing what their special talent is does not preclude the end of their journey of self discovery, it merely propels it to the next step.
And the next step is basically them trying to figure out what is the best way to use their special talents. For example Scootaloo: supposedly her special talent is sports - Ok...so now what? Is she going to become a professional scooter? Professional soccer player? Wonderbolt? Or maybe she will use her abilities to become a stunt mare and eventually work her way up to action movie star.
So yeah, they should get their cutie marks, and then crusade to figure out how to best use their talents

I don't agree at all. First of all, while the characters looks haven't changed, it is clear they are growing. Twilight's magical powers are significantly greater now than they were in the beginning. Rainbow can perform Sonic Rainbooms with ease. And I think one can reasonably derive that Sweetie Belle's magical discharge in the beginning of the episode with Babs is a sign that her magic is starting to bloom. Secondly the cutie mark crusaders are little fillies. They grow much faster than adults. By the time they look like teens the mane six will still look virtually the same
An interesting idea... personally I wouldn't be against them getting their marks... but I kinda would like to see an after the fact episode. Something that shows that the self discover never does truly end and just because we know what our "special talent" is we don't have to stop exploring and trying new things. Which then also leaves room open for more CMC episodes with them getting into crazy shenanigans!
or there special talent is helping others with their special talent
YES!
