I can't imagine raising the entire night sky is easy. Celestia has to deal with a single sun, Luna has to deal with billions.
You have to be kidding me, seriously? People who think this is real need to slap themselves with an astronomy book, a lot.
Little know fact: closest star is 4.2421 lightyears away from us. Good fucking luck Luna.

You see anything about stars? no! I don't care if you want Luna to be master of the stars in your fiction, comics or headcanon. Do it, I don't mind, I use non-canon stuff al the time. But don't something that is popular in the fandom is canon.
Why do I rage about this? Because Luna is so fucking embraced by the fandom it's insane. She is seen a saint, the all good in the world while celestia is the tyrant, the one at fault, the one who just stood by and did nothing.
ps: Don't think I'm one of those Solar empire or whatever it is followers. SE and LNR is one of the things I hate most in this fandom.
sidenote: not really writing at the moment, I'm in the most horrible place to be writing now, my room is at like 5 degrees, almosr freezing my fingers off. This took me a long time to write. At least the rage helped me warm up.

Many times Luna will drop back into Nightmare Moon at the drop of a hat ... seriously ...
some nameless pony give her a dirty look and she goes all "The Night will Last Forever!!1!11!!" again.. and commences going on a killing spree to force ponies to love her ..
I tend to avoid Tyrantlestia so i can not say much about them (I can only think of one that i read and it has a pretty epic story line) I kinda prefer a flawed Celestia that is as kind and loving as any other pony.

Both are responsible.
I have only seen one theory that could excuse Luna's actions becoming NMM (and i have seen it only recently).
The theory goes that Luna has a connection to dreams and the collective unconsciousness of all ponykind. The collective dreams of ponykind created the persona of NMM and forced it on Luna. Essentially she was mind raped into becoming NMM by the thoughts of others.
I have only seen the idea in one fic so i do not know how popular the idea really is.

I kinda hope that the stars are un-attached (just kinda associated with) Luna. I want them to be a free agent so Twilight can pick em up

That's just a theory used in a fiction, I don't mind those as long as people see it's not canon, Lauren Faust has said herself that Nightmare moon is a completly different entity created from the negative emotions Luna had, a dark force. Nothing NMM does is Luna's doing.
However, this is what I understand from it: the reason NMM came into existince are the childish emotions she had and the lack of skill to deal with them.

Thank you. The whole NMM was a completely different entity from Luna thing was new to me.
Luna turned herself into NMM for pretty stupid reasons but in real life people commit suicide the same reason and from a certain point of view NMM was a kind of suicide.

But NMM wasn't a choice, It took over Luna. harsh to say but suicide would've been a better outcome. Not that I want that to happen.
