Spike At Your Service: A Review · 6:00pm Dec 29th, 2012
Howdy howdy~
Since we're so close to the end of this season (and, in all honesty, because I feel too sick to do any productive typing today) I decided to try something new and give my opinion on today's episode! Might as well get into the habit of it... from what I've been able to see I might be in need to expressing my opinion on things that are slowing becoming canon in relation to my fics.
With that said... SPOILERS SPOILERS SPOILERS SPOILERS SPOILERS SPOILERS!!!
You got that? Good.
Okay, so overall it was a very cute episode. Nothing outrageously new from what we usually see in a 'life-debt' episode but still pretty cool. The main six worked well together in the later half and Spike in general was adorkable (he obviously takes after his 'mother').
Interesting titbits:
-AJ and RD novels... Yup, we're going to see a flood of 'Rainbow Dash and Applejack writing fan fiction stories' fan fictions after this. I shall welcome this with open arms.
-Everything on Timberwolfs... just, everything. I freaking love these fragile guys. Thumbs up, all the way.
-Spike loves Twilight dearly is canon. Its always has been, but that little nod at the end was d'aw worthy.
And finally...
-CANON DRAGON LORE:
Why is this bit so large? Well since my fic involves a baby dragon, any little tidbit released about dragons is important. In this episode, we learned about the 'Dragon Code' which, personally, I think little Spike only made up. So no... I don't think Cogwill is going to be in a 'life-debt' to Nathan De La Griffon now or anything like that... but it WILL makes something I'm planning out for later very interesting... no spoilers :3
The other little bit of dragon lore released this episode? The ability to store and summon items with your dragon breath... something I, in all honesty, was planning on making canon within my story. How else do you explain why the giant red dragon from Dragonshy left his cave willingly without his hoard? My headcanon has always been that dragons could use their breath to store things so that when they migrate they wouldn't have to worry about lugging around all their crap. Dragon Quest kinda confirmed my headcanon for me but Spike summoning his 'dragon code' card was just the cherry on top. In A Cog in the Machine, this was going to be the explanation for how Emeraldgrey was able to keep his hoard with him, and I originally had it planned that Cogwill would be unable to do such a thing due to her diminished size... but a re-write might now be in the cards. You'll just have to wait and see ;)
That said, hope everyone is still enjoying your holidays!
