What we see vs. what God sees · 9:54pm April 19th

In military operations, there are two viewpoints of an action; the soldier's view and the general's view.

The soldier can only see what his eyes are telling him, and often from his standpoint, the odds he's facing aren't good. The enemy is in an entrenched position; the enemy seems to have plenty of firepower. They have heavy weapons. And they seem invulnerable to being attacked. When commanded by the general to advance, at best the soldier says, wearily, "Yes, sir, I'll go. It's futile, but I'll go." From his point of view, he's being sent to his death.

The general - a good general, that is - has a different point of view. He has the intel; he has the maps, he knows the logistics. He knows things the soldier does not; that the enemy in this case is low on food and ammunition; that the enemy's morale is low and many are likely to flee when hit by a major assault; that the enemy's leadership is weak and uncoordinated; and that they enemy has no major reinforcements in the area. The general realizes that the battle will not be nearly as hard as his soldiers think.

When it comes what we see vs. what God sees, the same applies. We see the enemy's strengths; they have wealth, political power, and major support amongst the population. We see that our opponents are determined to stop us. We hear their jeers towards us and, if we bother going into - non-military - battle at all, we do it with a sense that this will be a grind. On the other hand, God sees all and is able to overcome the enemy, whether with miracles or by working "behind the scenes," as it were. God sees the people that need saving; He sees the weaknesses in the enemy's position -whether metaphorical or physical - and He knows that nothing the enemy can do will stop Him or dedicated soldiers of Christ from spreading His Gospel.

The Christian should remember this; the enemy is a foe beaten already through Christ's death on the cross, and will be annihilated at His return. This does not mean our work is necessarily easy, or that we won't face difficult obstacles. We do need to know, however, that nothing the devil or his puppets do can defeat God or His purposes.

"For Jehovah of hosts hath purposed, and who shall annul it? and his hand is stretched out, and who shall turn it back? (Isaiah 14:27)"

"No weapon that is formed against thee shall prosper; and every tongue that shall rise against thee in judgment thou shalt condemn. This is the heritage of the servants of Jehovah, and their righteousness which is of me, saith Jehovah (Isaiah 54:17)."

"The eyes of Jehovah are in every place, Keeping watch upon the evil and the good (Proverbs 15:3)."

"For the word of God is living, and active, and sharper than any two-edged sword, and piercing even to the dividing of soul and spirit, of both joints and marrow, and quick to discern the thoughts and intents of the heart. And there is no creature that is not manifest in his sight: but all things are naked and laid open before the eyes of him with whom we have to do. Having then a great high priest, who hath passed through the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our confession. For we have not a high priest that cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but one that hath been in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin.]Let us therefore draw near with boldness unto the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy, and may find grace to help us in time of need (Hebrews 4:12-16)."

Our God is greater than anything we face. And despite the devil's interference and meddling, we can accomplish what God gives us to do because it is He Who carries us.

Thank you for reading. May the Lord Jesus save you, and guide, protect, and watch over you.
