Notes and Analyzing MLP G5 MyM Chapter 2 ep 1, Izzy Dose It · 1:54am March 19th

Elloo everyone, this is my analyze and notes of MLP MyM, chapter 2 ep 1, Izzy Dose It.

Chapter 2:

Note: The intro of MYM is revealed to be showing each main character, plus their cutie mark. The orders are Sunny, Zipp, Pipp (with side pony characters Rocky and jazz alongside her), Izzy (and I may be over theorizing here, tho the butterflies around Izzy in that intro seems to be foreshadowing Misty’s cutie mark…), Hitch (and Sparky spitting dragonfire magic), then straight into Opaline castle where a concern Misty is standing alongside Opaline herself. Then the next scene shows the Mane 5 walking around the light rainbow beam of the Brighthouse (and note how Izzy is jumping is kinda a reference of Pinkie Pie jumping), and then the Unity Crystal that leads to the mane 5 on a rainbow road with the MYM title above their heads. Sunny also turned into an Alicorn as well, and into a perfect timing of the end of the intro lyrics “Let's all unite”.

Episode 1: Izzy Does It

  • Chapter 2 begins, as the main characters of this episode are both Izzy and Pipp.
  • A great scenery showing Zephyr Heights, Briddlewoods, and then Manetime Bay, and then the Brighthouse. There's also the hint of the MLP theme song in it as well before showing Izzy.
  • Izzy is seen looking around her scrap pile, in which Zipp realizes that Izzy’s cutie mark is glowing, which is a hint at her talent being used. Izzy is also looking for a Birthday present, which is for Sunny
  • Another interesting detail is that when Hitch saves Izzy and stops her fall using earth pony magic, his cutie mark glows as well. Perhaps even protecting others also serves as an act of kindness (Since it's revealed later on that Hitch’s element is Kindness)
  • Izzy then gives Sunny a bracelet, which is then used as a mane decoration, which leads to the main plotline of the Izzy episode. Meanwhile, Hitch and Zipp will clean up the mess behind..
  • Once again, Izzy’s cutie mark is glowing, maybe showing how even a small object such as a colorful bracelet can be used in many ways, such as an accessory for manes. Afar, Misty is spying on both Izzy and Sunny, and made a report to Opaline
  • A subtle hint for the next episode when a pile of food grew a lot bigger, and Sunny seemed not concerned at all…(Though I think the ponies may have solved world hunger due to bigger food…)
  • Izzy then encounters Pipp, leading up to both of their character plotlines of this episode. RIght after Pipp shares about the craft fair, and Sunny’s mane decoration, Izzy is shown to be slightly worried.
  • Izzy then spoken to Sunny about her situation, and worrying about making making the same bracelet mane for everypony
  • Izzy then asked Pipp for an advance, in which she stated that “You don’t have to make anything new, you just make the same thing, but better!”. Then saying that to add a twist to it, such as making her songs. AND CUE MUSIC OF CHAPTER 2 “All You Need is Your Beat”
  • At the Brighthouse, Izzy is now onto “making into another thing” (note, she seems a little nervous when about to do her creativity skill).
  • Meanwhile, Pipp is also having a bit of a hard time making her next song. For instance, she seems to be nervous when somepony on the phone texts (perhaps one of her fans, The Pipp Squeaks) asking when her next song will be hit. This seems to be slightly pressuring her a bit.
  • Pipp then finds Izzy, and states that she has a creative block (which is just about what Pipp is about to experience in a few minutes, or seconds later into the episode). For Pipp's solution, it's to listen to her fans, and do what they want. Then she also questions herself of what her next hit will be.
  • Pipp then heads to Mane Melody, a combination of a mane solan and a stage at the back of the building for singing, as an act of wanting to be inspired by singing. Though when testing her singing voice, her voice slightly cracks. At least background ponies Jazz (an earth mare) and Rocky (a pegasus stallion) are helping her out. Pipp then thought of thinking listening to her fans on a record video might help, though it doesn't work.
  • Meanwhile, back to Izzy, she seems to be having a hard time selling the same but slightly different bracelet for a customer, and it doesn't work. Sunny then inspires Izzy that she always thinks of something unique, and perhaps even going to Bridlewood might help. As for the next scene, Misty is seen sneaking what was later shown to be a small mirror and putting it onto Sunny’s table.
  • Back to Pipp, her worrying seems to be worse, though for a split second, her cutie mark glowed.
  • Now to the villain's lair: Opaline welcomes Misty back to her castle, and seemingly takes interest when Misty states that earth ponies have plant magic. Opaline is now saying that her plan must start now. (Note; as lore purpose, Opaline “rescued” Misty as a filly)
  • Back to Izzy once again, she stumble across a old rusty motor scooter, which then helps her creativity skills
  • Back at the Brighthouse, as soon as Zipp, Hitch, and Sunny finished cleaning up the place, Pipp flew through the entrance, feeling sorry for giving Izzy a bad advice. Sunny stated that she is only trying to help a friend, which is true. Then, just in time, Izzy walks in the door and thanks Sunny and Pipp for the advice. She then shows her new invention, a Unicycling Cart, made from the rusty motor scooter.
  • Moments later, Sunny shows her friends the mirror that Pipp “gives” to her, in which Opaline is spying from the other side of the glass. Then, Opaline found out that the Brighthouse had a clocking device to prevent her from keeping an eye on the Mane 5. (Note, another lore moment: Equestria used to have a shield, which means after the magic is back, the shield is brought down.
  • At the end of the episode, Izzy made a music record for Pipp, and she regained her confidence, and her cutie mark glowing brighter.

A message of episode 1 of ch 2:
This is surprisingly a bit of a tricky one:
Inspiration is a powerful thing to not only yourself, but to others as well. In this case, Pipp and Sunny inspire Izzy of looking for new and unique things to create. At the end of the episode, Izzy created a music record that helped Pipp gain her confidence back.
In other words, confidence and creativity always work together

Thoughts:

  • It is a great start of chapter 2 just after ch1. Sure yes there are some people saying its a mix episode. For me, I think it's a decent good episode with good morals. Though at least there's subtle hints of Opaline’s plan and Misty lore in the episode.
  • Good character development for Izzy and a bit of Pipp overcoming creative blocks.

Thank you for reading, there will be more reviews soon or later

I watched the episode and... meh.

It feels like the writers of G5 were just staring at the wall, agreeing that they have a creative block. All they had to work with was a toy of a cart that Hasbro would sell DLCs for.

Then they all agreed that since they have nothing noteworthy to write, they'll just make ponies their mouthpieces and talk about their lack of ideas.

And that's basically the whole episode...

With how slow and conflict-free everything is, I feel like there's zero heart in this and the targeted audience are literally 3-year-olds.

I really wanted to say good things about this. I'm actually not hard to please. But there's just nothing there...

I respected them for going 3D and wanted to say at least something positive about that. But even the animation feels lazy. I mean, it's passable, but you could point to animation irks at every scene.

I feel like the creators of G5 aren't doing this because they want to do it. They're just doing it because they're getting paid to do it.

Very nice review.

I enjoyed the episode, though I could be biased as Izzy and Pipp are my favorite G5 ponies. :pinkiehappy:

Even if I'm not a father myself, I have assisted in caring for my youngest cousins, nephew and nieces, so I could feel Hitch and Zipp's pain when Sparky undid the cleaning efforts. Oof, but hilarious at the same time. :rainbowlaugh:

I also liked how they showed the contrast between the two artistic ponies; Izzy is the type who creates a thing and then moves on to the next thing; she doesn't have a fanbase to please (as Pipp apparently thought). No wonder she got stuck when asked to the same thing, just better. Pipp is a celebrity musician, pop idol, an influencer with a big fanbase. She has a fanbase she needs to please, no wonder her advice to Izzy backfired a bit.

However, what I loved the most, and one of the reasons I love Pipp so much, is she realized her advice was bad in the end. Pipp is a character (much like Rarity, my favorite pony across the generations, though Pipp is a serious contender of sharing that spot) that's so easy to write badly as a one-dimensional 'it's all about me' prissy diva. I always love subversion of stereotypes and Pipp is another fine example MLP doing this right.
