0/5: MY EYEEEESSS!!!

Greetings, folks! This is Mr. J here back with another TV show review for today. This morning, I will be reviewing a Disney animated series entitled “Super Robot Monkey Team Hyperforce Go!” which ran from 2004-2006. I remember watching the first two episodes of the first season and playing a computer flash game based on it; and…that was it.

That was the only time I was ever exposed to this show as a kid. So not too long ago, I was able to binge watch this series for the first time on Disney+. To be honest…it is a highly underrated series! I’m shocked neither Disney nor a lot of people ever talk about this hidden gem.

This show is about a young human boy who encounters a team of highly advanced robotic monkeys. He gains some super monkey powers and becomes the team’s leader as they soon battle against the tyranny of the evil Skeleton King.

As I was watching all these episodes, I was really impressed with the way they animated these characters and the whole world setting although I was a little surprised by the fact that this is heavily influenced by anime (which I’m not a fan of).

Chiro is a pretty fun character to watch, and I was amazed to realize he was voiced by Beast Boy himself—Greg Cipes. His character learned so much about what it means to be a true warrior and had to remember to never give up in the face of danger.

The cyborg monkeys are likewise enjoyable to watch; I wouldn’t say they are amazing characters or anything, but they are still fun overall. Gibson, Nova, Antauri, Otto, SPRX-77–these guys were entertaining, to say the least.

My personal favorite character out of the bunch is Otto himself because of his silly personality and goofiness. In fact, he’s the only one who’s pretty much non-serious most of the time.

Props to Tom Kenny, Kari Wahlgren, Kevin Michael Richardson, and Corey Feldman for voicing these characters. Clancy Brown was pretty good as Otto although I feel like he sounds too much like Mr. Krabs. I would’ve liked it if his voice was a mixture of Lex Luthor and Krabs, but that’s just me.

Skeleton King is one of the most badass villains I’ve seen in Disney TV animation so far. Mark Hamill went all out in his voiceover performance throughout the series—showing how his villainous character is not someone to be messed with.

On the other hand however, if we remove the Skeleton King persona, what he was before shows how tragic his own fate was. He created the Hyperforce and wanted to make sure they would fulfill the purpose they were made—to fight against what he would soon become.

It just sucks this show was cancelled because it would’ve been interesting to see Chiro at least try to find some way to bring Skeleton King back to his human form…back to being good again. I dunno, perhaps his transformation to evil was permanent. But regardless, it was still fun to see his resurrection in his brand new body at the end of the show.

The world building is very intriguing, and it show us so much stuff going on outside of Shuggazoom. Our heroes go to different places around the city and all over the world combating the forces of evil and foiling the sinister plans of the Skeleton King.

It’s just so cool to see these characters learn and grow as they experience hardship, failure, and even victory which makes them learn more about themselves.

So from what I got out of this series, we learn how we must not allow evil to decide what we become, and we must reach out to those who care about us to help us defend what we stand for. This is basically another classic example of good vs evil, and how it can last for years the more our good guys persistently maintain a good fight. There is no other way of putting it other than that.

With that said, this gets a 4.5/5: Super Duper Awesomeness Go! Like I said, it’s criminally underrated and deserves a continuation one way or another. Check this show out if you haven’t already.

Peace out.

I can't help but feel like I did see this as a kid but somehow I have no proper memories of it.
Strange

It's a shame that the show ended on a cliffhanger ending.

Agreed if there was a season 5 what do you think would have happened

That Skeletor would be forever defeated and the heroes would possibly get a happy ending, such as Chiro and his girlfriend getting married.

I haven’t seen this show for myself yet, although I’m definitely interested thanks to its positive responses and the cast members involved.

At one point, I remembered learning that the late Mako Iwamatsu played a character for this series.
