G5 should never have been made into a direct sequel to G4 anyway. It’s place in the continuity is already confusing enough as it is, and the explanations for how the two series are part of the same universe don’t make sense at all.
I agree with A Man Undercover. I think G5 should have just been its own thing, and not a distant sequel.

Plus, I am still butthurt it all undermines the successes and achievements of the original Mane Six, just because the ponies STILL CAN'T get over their dumb racism/xenophobic views against each other!!??
Have these morons learn a dang thing with the Windigos or at the final battle against the Terrible Trio!?

The sad truth is, humankind is no better at this either. We continually forget what we’ve learned after a world-shattering experience because it’s more convenient that way rather than utilizing those lessons going forward.
Now I don't know how true this is, but from what I heard, G5 was apparently supposed to be a continuity reboot of G4 with new iterations of the main cast and some species diffences. Like Twilight was going to be an Earth Pony, Pinkie Pie a Pegasus, and Fluttershy a Unicorn. As I said, I don't know how true this is but what do you think? Would you have preferred a reboot? Or something entirely diffrent?

Both. To me, both is always good.
We're not seeing new kinds of magic spells that Sunny hasn't learned yet besides levitation, flying, transfiguration spells, and bubble shields. The same goes for all the unicorns at Bridlewood as well. I miss all the spells from G4.
