New Non-MLP Story I'm Working On.

Hey guys.

I've been working on a new story that isn't MLP related. It's a story about winged humans. Feathery wings. Not Angels, but humans born with feathered wings that are fused to their Scapulars, which are our Shoulder Blades.

Also, they are a tribal/nomadic people. Like the Sentinelese people on North Sentinel Island, which inspired me.

Country/Island name: Alyssia.

Species name: Alyssians/Keelians(like the Homo Erectus and Homo Habilis genus relatives. Sibling species, if that makes sense to you guys?) And Keelians because some of them have a small, keel-like structure in their chest like a bird.

Genus: Homo Alatus/Homo Volucer.

Homo Alatus=Winged Man.
Homo Volucer=Flying Man.

Both of these terms for the species are the same. They're both winged and able to fly. So their species goes by the two genera.

Genus Relatives: Homo Sapiens(extant), Homo Habilis(extinct), Homo Erectus(extinct) and Homo Neanderthalis(extinct).

Wingspan: 8-10ft length and a meter in height.

Height. 5'0-6'0. If they are lucky, their maximum height is 6'4.

Wing Shape: Mix of High-Speed, Passive-Soaring and Active-Soaring Wings.

Wingbone Structure: Ulna and Radius structure similar to that of a human forearm. I drew inspiration from the exposed/damaged angel wings in the later seasons of Supernatural.

Country Size: 7, 692, 024 km. The same size of Australia.

They are a nomadic people who wear open-backed leather corsets for their wings. This allows them to use their wings easier than through making slit lines in the backs of corsets for wings to go through. #

They have hot summers and snowy winters. Aavyans/Keelians have low body fat, fast metabolism, enhanced/ better healing and require a high-protein diet. Two times as many calories than a human body needs.

Alyssia is a prairie. Grasslands and forests. There are also some rivers and coasts. One coastal town is called Banborough. A coastal village for going out to sea on wooden ships(pirate-like ships) to collect fish to eat, since it's part of their diet.

The main village is called Westerbrook.

Aavyans/Keelians keep livestock like sheep, goats, cows, chickens, etc. Only to breed them for meat, eggs(chickens) and milk. They also use horses for getting around the island.

Terminology:

Flock: The term for family/tribe. Blood or found family. When of age, young Aavyans/Keelians will leave their Flock and form their own.

Clutch/Brood. More than one child in a family. Like birds.

Nyumbani. The word has a silent N at the star, so just Yumbani. The Swahili word for 'home.' A hexagon-shaped home made from thinned-down tree trunks, leaves and branches. Roof is made from branches, leaves and leather hides stitched together.

Roles/Occupation:

Healer: Doctor.

Hunter-Gatherer. Brings back food and gathers fruits, vegetables, herbs, etc.

Chief and Chieftess: Leaders of the Flock.

Blacksmith: Creates weapons and/or armor from melted-down metals.

Messenger: Someone who flies over long distances to deliver messages inscribed in ink on parchment(untanned animal skins) to other Flocks.

Herbalist: Healer who uses herbs for healing or someone who works in growing herbs.

Seamstress: Women who sow and knit clothing from leather(animal skins and hides).

Caretaker: Women who look after the eggs of Aavyans/Keelians in the Nursery, where eggs are kept warm so they survive. Aavyans/Keelians are born like humans, but born inside an egg and hatch.

Cooks: People who prepare food i.e fruits, veg, herbs, seeds and meat.

Elders: Grandparents.

Abilities:

Aavyans/Keelians have a Syrinx like a bird in the bottom of their throat, two extra ribs, two extra vertebrae in their necks and air sacs on their lungs like a bird to maintain a steady heartbeat during flight. This allows them to:

Trill/Purr
Sing Birdsong
Communicate over wind like a bird.

Aavyans/Keelians also have a thing called Musk. An oil like Preen Oil on their wings. Musk can change depending on emotions. Happy emotions like love, joy, warmth, relaxation and calmness have a sweet smell, whereas emotions like grief, pain, anger and fear will smell sour.

Aavyans sleep on their fronts, as sleeping on their backs can cause damage to their wings. They sleep on fur pelts in circular holes made in the ground and filled with wool sheared from sheep, fur pelts from animals hunted in the past and feathers that fall out.

Aavyans/Keelians are also religious/spiritual. They believe in their goddess called Alara who created their world, gave them Elemental Magic and gave them wings.

Yes, they have Elemental Magic. I will explain on that and the society of Aavyans/Keelians in another post if you guys wanna know more.
