Addressing The Feedback I’ve Gotten On My Latest Review · 6:56pm Aug 27th, 2023

Hey, everypony. I know this may seem a bit weird of me to do, but I wanted to put out this blog post in order to talk about some feedback I’ve gotten on my recent Tell Your Tale review video on “Moon Festival.” Thank you all who have commented so far and I’m so glad that things are going well so far for me on the YouTube side of things. This won’t be a depressing post, don’t worry. I just want to put this out to let you guys know that I hear you and I’ll be changing some things about the presentation of my videos going forward.

So the main critique I’ve gotten is that I speak too fast on the reviews and yeah…that is true. I’ve been working on that as that is something I get a lot from family members that watch test cuts of my content, but it seems like I have a bit of a ways to go with that. The good news is that in the defense video itself, I do enunciate a whole lot more and speak slower for greater effect, and there isn’t as much of the speaking fast thing, but there are still quite a few moments where I end up relapsing and it’s too late to change it at this point without redoing the whole project from the ground up. That video is still a lot more watchable than this one primarily because I put extra emphasis on making myself sound clear and concise. But when I’m not making videos with that big premise, it can become a lot harder to keep track of the way I speak because the more chill the content, the more chill I am as a creator. Honestly, I think the main reason why I speak fast is because that just comes naturally to me, really. I talk fast in real life, so it’s hard to know when to slow down. I’m not usually aware I’m doing it until I replay the videos and even then, I’ve always thought that people could still understand me. Well, that’s clearly not the case and I get it. I do. When I do my videos, I tend to get too comfortable talking and I usually end up talking the speed I normally do and that’s clearly gotta change. So I’m going to be more mindful about the speed that I talk going forward. Because the last thing I want is for you guys to not hear what I’m saying or worse, misunderstand it. I’ve been aware that this is an issue, but it’s also been very hard to know when I’m doing it because I just get so wrapped up in reading the script to the best of my ability that I completely lose sight of what speed I’m speaking. Well, I’ve heard you and if we have another episode releasing this week, I’ll be sure to keep the speed of my voice in check going forward as I want you all to understand me and what I’m saying most of all. I put a lot of effort into my content, even small review videos like this, so you can imagine the pressure I have to make sure the videos are of great quality. Now I know that I’m not there yet, but I’m hoping to grow with your feedback and become better at this whole YouTube gig.

The second critique I’ve gotten is that my mic quality is poor. I expected that it would be as it’s not even a proper mic. It’s just literally me recording myself reading the script using my iPad camera and then overlaying footage over the audio of that recording. I know that sounds really, really, really, really cheap, but believe me, if I had the money to buy proper YouTuber equipment, I’d do it in a heartbeat, no questions asked. I’m still hoping to do that at some point, so the quality can be clearer, but really, the only thing I can really do right now is make the audio louder in the mix and hope for the best. That’s what I’m doing currently for the defense video and the quality seems to sound better there, but we’ll have to see what happens. I’m really sorry if that turns you off, but please understand that I am working with a very limited amount of resources for my first time starting out in the field. I didn’t even know if my videos were even going to be watchable considering the shoestring to no budget I’m making this stuff on. I mean, the fact that it even sounds decent at all is simply a miracle to me. That’s obviously no excuse for the poorer audio, but it is a reason as to why it’s not quite sounding crystal clear and professional yet. Following the release of the defense video, I’m going to see if I can buy some actual equipment to do this as the poorer quality is not a long-term vehicle for success and I’m quite aware of that. As of right now, there’s not much I can do to fix the mic quality other than making the audio louder, so I think that’s what I’m going to try and do.

The third and final thing is the placement of the intro sequence. Putting it at the beginning of the video was the wrong decision and after getting some advice from The BlueEM2, I’m going to see if I can both make it a bit shorter and place it after my introduction and the obligatory YouTuber “like and subscribe” thing. For me, the unique intro is a crucial part of what makes me stand out as a content creator, so that has to stay, but I do agree that there are better placements for it. The length of the intro now is about the length it is in the actual defense video and because this thing has been in the works since forever, I’ve never really gotten proper feedback on it. Well, now I know and I’m going to be making changes to its placement and length. I think I can trim it down a couple seconds here and there to make it flow faster and I’m definitely going to try that. The intro has to stay for obvious reasons as I said, but I think I can make sitting through it watchable if I just make some minor tweaks to the way it is utilized.

I’m still a bit conflicted in regards to including music, so I think I’m either going to put it really low in the mix like the channel trailer or not put it at all. I don’t know. Either this week or next week (whenever the next episode comes out) shall be the ultimate test as to whether I include a backing track in my videos going forward. I’m hoping to one day make this at least a part time job through monetization at some point, so getting not copyrighted is very important. Most importantly though, you guys have to be able to hear me clearly, so as I said, next time will be the ultimate test. I want my channel to one day shape up to be the pinnacle and gold standard of pony content, so people will flock to our cause instead of the G5 hate channels as we’re the real deal. As a result, there definitely needs to be some changes to how the content is put out around here. Because if people like HelloPussy cannot make it past even the halfway point of my videos, then everything we’ve worked for is in deep trouble.

For now, I’m still figuring things out. But your feedback always helps me grow as a person, author, and PonyTuber, so the more you guys comment and give me feedback on my videos, the more they can become better and I can churn out better quality content as a result. So don’t ever be shy to give me your thoughts. They really help a lot. The thing I want you all to take away from this all is that I see your comments, I hear you, and I’m going to take the extra precaution in order to make sure the next review is as awesome as it can possibly be.

With that being said, I’ll be seeing you guys soon with the next episode review. Bye!

People shouldn't expect top quality content straight away. I know you're still finding your feet on YouTube, and that's understandable.

While I do agree that you should slow down a bit in your videos, overall I think you've been doing pretty well so far.
