Self-indulgent Author's Note Party, Chapter 8 edition · 6:18am Dec 19th, 2012
As an experiment, I threw some author's notes into the comments when I posted chapter 7. They went over pretty well, so in my never ending quest for more attention to better inform my lovely readers, let's just do some notes every week, here in the blog.
Completely trivial author's notes for Chapter 8
* About half of this chapter was written on an airplane. Luckily, no one was seated next to me, so I never had to have that awkward conversation most people have on airplanes. You know, the one where someone asks "Hey, what are you writing? Is it a story about an art gallery?" and then you reply, "ACTUALLY, IT'S ABOUT A CARTOON PONY RAPE DUNGEON." And then the other passenger thinks you're all weird for some reason.
* Aurora's resentment of the Dreams is an idea left over from Twisted. She was originally going to be introduced during the Gathering. When the Dream family says they're going to go find someone to play with in the Gallery, Aurora is who they ended up choosing. She did not enjoy their company.
* In retrospect, I kind of regret not calling this chapter "Mirrors."
* Twist and Silver's conversation was intended to be much shorter. It got longer as the two of them ended up bonding more than I had planned, until it became the centerpiece of the chapter, instead of just a subplot. Originally, Rarity's talk with AJ would have dominated this chapter, but it was pushed back a week.
* This chapter sure has a lot of guards pushing ponies around. Hey, maybe the guards deserve their own spinoff fic! Learn their hopes and dreams! Know their love! Ha ha, this will never happen, fuck the guards.
* Diamond's conversation with her parents went through a ton of revisions. Practically nothing remains of the original draft. Discarded ideas included her being visited by a child psychologist, and Filthy dragging her kicking and screaming back into the world. Ultimately, though, I realized that none of these make sense, for one very important reason: no one pushes Diamond Tiara around if she can help it. Oh sure, she might end up covered in printer ink or thrown in a mud puddle at the end of an episode, but she's still a smart, confident, and ruthless filly whose resolve can only be broken by major traumatic events, like being raped or having her best friend die. Which both kind of happened to her in the same week. Ouch.
* Writing Applejack dialog is just fun. Plus, this weekend she finally gets an episode! This is the best Christmas ever!
Happier days.
Alright. Informative.
Cartoon pony rape dungeon is best dungeon
I'ts funny that some times the story kind of writes it self... It's like it have a life of it's own.... Fuck, that's scary
Keep up those blog posts; communication is important!
Maybe if you get shared around enough, you'll finally get the feature you deserve! You seem to be coming along with each sequel.
I actually liked Diamond snapping back to herself! It was a surprise and I can't wait to see what she has to say to Rarity.
