BD 1 + other

So much like End, I'll be giving some insight into Blooming Days with some blogs along the way.

After my first full length story The End is Not the End I wanted to shift away from epic adventure combat story to something a lot more... small scale.

I also wanted to move away from the extremely powerful alicorns to the less powerful unicorns. So that's how the first step in writing BD started.

With the start of End I didn't like Starlight at all. I was in the "she's just a Twilight clone" camp. And then I fell in love with her. She's such a fun character. Blasting Discord, her love of kites, her efforts to be a better mare. I admire her a lot and so it was a given she'd be a big part of my next story.

Sunset was actually gonna be a part of End in the initial drafts. When Celestia was returning home after being brutalized by Twilight she was going to find a similar diary to the one Twilight used to communicate with Sunset. Celestia was going to write to Sunset and ask for her to come back to help turn Twilight back to normal. This fell through mostly because of time. Not time constraints, but timeline. Like End takes place like 30ish years after the series which already had a time skip. How old would Sunset even have been? I toyed with the idea of making her an alicorn that had earned her wings by the virtuous things she'd done in the human world, but it all seemed much too convoluted so I scrapped it. Well, now Sunset is a main part of this story.

Twilight is Twilight. If it's a long fic of mine she will be central to the plot.

Celestia and Luna will be around a lot. They're not the focal point, but I love them too much not to include them. They're also absurdly powerful here. Like, unreasonably so. Hopefully that doesn't turn anyone off. There's no real fights here so it should be fine, I think.

So I'm going for two really big things in BD. Drama and Romance. I think I can handle drama fairly well, but romance is still a bit hard for me. I think I can hit it sometimes, but others I'm like hmmmmmm.

I'm aiming for a posting schedule of 2 chapters per week so the pacing of the story will be a bit faster than end, though the chapters will be shorter than ends.

Anyway, I think that's enough for the first blog. I'll be doing these every two chapters instead of 1 like end.

Oh yeah I almost forgot. Gonna get my third entry for the 1000 words contest up by tomorrow. It's a little slice of life that I just wrote on a whim.
