War And Absolute Chaos Update

And yes, that is indeed the next chapter's name. Another short post today as I have just two things to say. The first is that, compared to the last thirteen or so chapters, this one will have a slightly lighter tone. May seem weird given the blatant subject matter but this is kinda the calm before the storm and Act 3 is gonna be a heavy one. I don't write to pull heartstrings per sei, and when I do it's usually due to poor decision making like with maiming Scootaloo, but the next arc will explore something I've been leading up to for a while. If I'm being blunt, even I was getting sick of the overly grimdark tone which made the story feel unnecessarily silly if not incredibly melodramatic with how I tried to turn a silly concept into some kinda character exploration. Wouldn't change a thing besides the whole Scootaloo thing (something I came up with on the spot as I'd written myself into a corner) but God does this story need some levity. Like, it was getting to the point that it felt less like MLP and more like a random darkfic with FIM characters stapled on. To get back to the point, it's gonna be a hodgepodge of lighthearted solutions to an invasion (AKA screwing with the shapeshifters) and a showdown with Chrysalis.

Last on the agenda this time, this chapter will be quite delayed but I hope to have it out by August. The chapter as of the posting of this blog is about 30-35% complete and it's probably going to end up shorter than I thought it'd be but I will also be writing the next two chapters before I publish anything else. All three build on each other so there's no value in waiting days for me to write out another chapter thus I plan to release all three simultaneously. Slight warning, one of these chapters will contain a semi-head cannon I have for how magic works in Equestria. It’s not major or universe destroying, just an interpretation of something the show leaves somewhat vague. To add a slight hint, it’s about why each pony species seems to be able to use magic for certain uses (namely straight up magic, earth toiling and flight and weather control) yet the others just don’t. Seems irrelevant and won’t make much sense now but hopefully it will when I finish them. Those three chapters will round off Act 2 and lead to Act 3 which involves Aurum very directly. How long that Act will be I don't know because I don't plan anything. Sometimes, that leads to good things like the Changelings appearing and other times stuff like injured Scootaloo. After Act 3, there'll be the fallout which'll be between three-four chapters depending on what ideas I have and then an epilogue before that's it. I plan to write other stories after that but that would be it for ROF.
