I have a story idea that I would love to see to fruition, but that I would rather leave to someone who actually lives in America to write because they would know best. It's just the basic idea however, so I guess that I would leave the rest for them to decide.
The story is a pony on Earth one, but with a human turned into a pony. Basically, after he is freed from his stone prison to be befriended by the ponies in season 3, Discord is bored and decides to do some chaos in another world, and so he finds Earth. He sees the various problems that Earth has, the lack of magic, sees about the show, and goes "Mmmh... What if one of these humans is turned into an unicorn?" And so he sends a serum that turns whoever drinks it into an unicorn and watches the fireworks. Of course, he makes sure to send the serum to someone that will actually use it.
For this, he chooses a guy sick in the mind who is a fan hardcore of the show and who wants his own cute pony to cuddle and who is ready to do anything to have one. Once he gets the serums, he kidnaps the first street kid he finds that nobody will miss and gives the boy/girl the serum to then keep him/her as a pet. Too bad for him, the serum turns whoever drinks it into an unicorn, so the boy/girl eventually learns to use magic and escapes.
And from here, chaos ensues as everyone pretty much will want him/her because he/she is a ball of cuddles, he/she has magic, he/she is a freaking unicorn, etc... Or they want him/her gone because they are religious fanatics ba*****. It would pretty much be the Want It Need It episode but in a world scale, with much bigger consequences, and the kid being a street kid, he/she wouldn't hesitate to hit back with his/her newfound magic. Thankfully, he/she still would end up making friends. Not everyone is a douchbag. And he/she may or may not end up becoming an alicorn. And all the while, Discord would eat his popcorn.
It would be a fun story to write, but I don't have enough world knowledge to allow myself to do it. I barely know anything about America to start with. And even if I started it in France, it wouldn't be better. I know very little outside of my everyday life.
I wish I could help, I really do, but I live in Southeastern Canada and I already have too many story ideas of my own to work on, I’m truly sorry.

I have no specific place in mind, but I suppose somewhere where it would be easy to find a street kid, like in a big city.
I might be able to do it I think New York would be a good place or Florida.
