Brainstorming: Cultist Simulator Pony Summons · 6:09pm May 17th, 2023
Recently, in the downtime I don't actually have, I've been playing a lot of Cultist Simulator on mobile. I hesitate to say it's my "comfort game," but I've easily put more time into this game across multiple platforms than pretty much any other game I've played, with the possible exception of Minecraft. It's good, you should play it.
I've recently found myself returning to an old idea of adding MLP content to Cultist Simulator. This time, though, I find myself thinking about some custom summons--high-powered gods and monsters that you can call into the world to help you on your quest. Here's what I have so far:
Discord: Powerful in Moth (chaos, confusion, deception) and Grail (desire, temptation)
Nightmare Moon: Powerful in Winter (Silence, cold, death) and Lantern (Light, knowledge, dreams)
Daybreaker: Powerful in Forge (Fire, strength, creation) and Lantern
Midnight Sparkle: Powerful in Lantern and Knock (Unlocking, Opening, and Summoning)
"Nightmare Cadance": Powerful in Grail (sex, blood, childbirth) and Heart (Joy, dance, mania)
Queen Chrysalis: Powerful in Heart? and, um... Winter???
Sunset Shimmer?: Powerful in Knock and Forge (Perhaps in her human form?)
Traditionally, all summons are also very powerful in Edge (violence, destruction, strength).
I'm also considering adding a special summon rule, which will allow you to summon each new creature basically for free, but only once, and only if you have the right character. For example, attempting a Ritual with only Fluttershy will summon Discord, but doing so will leave behind a card called "A Token of Affection," which will prevent this special summoning if it's attempted again. The trouble is, I'd have to add a lot more pony content to the game to get this to work, and summons are much more simple to program than the followers, items, etc., this system will require.
Nevertheless, my current thoughts on the special summon rules are:
Fluttershy --> Discord, leaves behind "A Token of Affection" (a flower)
Celestia --> Daybreaker, leaves behind "A Lingering Heat"
Luna --> Nightmare Moon, leaves behind "An Old Regret"
Twilight Sparkle --> Midnight Sparkle, leaves behind "A Taste of Power"
Shining Armor --> "Nightmare Cadance," leaves behind "A Hint of Jealousy"
Starlight Glimmer --> Queen Chrysalis, leaves behind "A Whiff of Anger"
The Element of Magic? --> Sunset Shimmer, leaves behind "A Broken Mirror"
This is all just idle brainstorming at this point, mind, but I still wanted to share
Any particular thoughts or feedback?
