Homebrew 40k... Homebrew? · 5:53am Feb 17th, 2023
Homebrew love it or hate it you got to admit some fan-made stuff is freaking awesome, I mean Vox Machina is a homebrew podcast of DnD, and look at it now freaking TV series man!
Before I run off track let me tell you I have a love/hate relationship with homebrew in 40k, let me explain.
There are two kinds of Homebrew in 40k lore-friend and not lore-friendly.
'Not lore-friendly' is when you completely gloss over the rules of lore and break every single one, a good explanation of what not to do is the whole the templin institute video with it's that 'female spacemarine' thing is a good explanation of how not to do homebrew. I'm not going to go into that rabbit hole but it's just an example.
Then there is the good lore-friendly stuff that is spot on in the lore or hasn't been shown but could be established with the given lore, for example, there could be a space bears primaries successor of the space wolves gene-seed. Because that person (he is a youtube) follows the rules of lore and was about to create an awesome sub-faction that doesn't break the established lore.
(Before you ask I don't know where my boy Frost and his brothers I'm biased when it comes to my warbeasts, also I haven't done anything official about the lore besides a single character sheet that gives a barebones of his history)
Sadly some really cool concepts are not-lore-friendly like the black templar mini-series by flashgitz with an infection that turns a space marine into a 'furry' (which I think is just warp affection).
Still, homebrew is kinda fun if you do it correctly.
I've done homebrew before, a couple of times actually and one of my more recent ideas is a homebrew of homebrew.
Let's just say I'm of PatrickNerdu on Deviantart, I did promise you guys something green right?
Yeah I agree with you here homebrew stuff is awesome if done right and well
