    MLP AU Magic system

To those who read this blog post, I'm going to elaborate on the magic system of this AU. There's different kinds of magic: biologically exclusive magic (magic that can only be used by a specific race) and general magic (magic not restricted to a specific race).

    General magic

    MLP AU idea

A couple years ago, I came up with this MLP AU. This AU is redesigned from the ground up, rather than simply an alternate timeline from canon. In this MLP-AU, all races are regular anthros, human-shaped hands and bipedal body shape with tails, wings, and horns, but, hooves instead of feet. The ponies also have a severe gender imbalance problem, where roughly 80% of their race is female, which

History

Discovering mythological creatures

One night, when Megan was 13, she was tending to her family's horse ranch with her trusty horse, TJ. On that very night, Megan came across two unusual creatures, Amalthea and Pegasus. Both were injured from a fight. Megan brought them into her barn and nursed them back to health. As she did, she was fascinated that these creatures could talk. With their permission, she began writing detailed journal entries on the two creatures on the condition that these findings remain between them.

However, Megan's younger siblings, Danny and Molly, managed to discover the strange creatures. They vowed not to tell anyone out of respect for their older sister. They would learn over time that other creatures from human mythology are real, but, incredibly rare due to so many being hunted to extinction. At first, Megan didn't believe it, but, that changed when she saw came across a circus full of mythological creature they used for a freakshow. Disgusted with the treatment of the creatures, she helped them escape and lead them to freedom before returning to her family's ranch.

Brave new world

Knowing her solution was a temporary one and what likely awaits Amalthea and Pegasus, Megan pleaded them to find a new world where humans would never find them. Amalthea decided to take it a step further and create a whole new world. One inhabited by the simple, gentle species known as ponies. However, Megan would need to come in order to teach the ponies all they needed to know in order to care for themselves.

Megan reluctantly agreed to these terms on the condition that a way to return to her world would be provided. Amalthea agreed to these terms and with her magic, she transported herself, Megan, Pegasus, and a herd of ponies on the ranch to this new world. In this new world, the ponies could talk like Megan, but, they still needed guidance.

Megan would dedicate a large portion of her life to the care of the ponies regardless of their breed. She would help them overcome many villains that found their way into Ponyland time and time again while wielding a magical artifact, the Rainbow of Light.

Death and legacy

At the age of 84, Megan had finally seen the ponies grow into independent societies and passed away peacefully in her sleep after spending her last day with her pony friends. Her death was mourned by all ponies. Unicorns raised their horns to the skies, pegasi spread their wings, and earth ponies bowed their heads in reverence.

Though Megan is long since gone, her memory faded into obscurity, her spirit survives thanks to Amalthea and Pegasus keeping her memory in their hearts.

I just wanna say, even though I hold no love for the Williams siblings (which is NOT me saying I hate them; I'm more neutral than anything, though I don't think humans and humanoids like witches, gnomes, etc. belong in the franchise only because future generations/adaptations treat Ponies, mythical creatures, etc., as the equivalent of human(oid)s, and thus human(oid)s don't mesh well with regards to future generations/adaptations), I'm glad to see Molly and Danny getting included, seeing as most don't include 'em.

So, Equestria Girls doesn’t count for anything?

5712314
Well, it is an AU. Yes, it can be accessed from the Pony world by a magic mirror, and is thus semi-canon, but it's still AU. Plus, outside of the non-ponies from "Woe is Me" (G1), all of the human(oid)s in G1 are normal-looking human(oid)s. The humans in EG? Candy-colored skin, the Elements of Harmony may exist over there allowing the Mane 7 to take anthro forms, etc., so it's a different human world than the one the Williams siblings come from. Also, I'm pretty sure G5 has yet to include anything hinting EG happened, so I guess even Hasbro doesn't count it.

5712316
It’s been stated in G4 that witches are something heard of. Plus, Santa Claus is mentioned in G3.

5712319
I mean human(oid) witches like Hydia, Reeka, and Draggle. And yeah, I kinda forgot about Santa Claus. Though, considering we never see him, nor is described, he might not be a human in that universe. I know there are some works that turn Santa into an animal (can't remember their names, but still)

5712322
Regardless, this is my take on the franchise, so, I’ll do as I see fit with it.

5712323
I...didn't believe I said anything that implied otherwise, but okay.

5712334
You saying that human(oid)s don’t mesh with the franchise comes to mind.

5712335
Well, outside of G1, EG, and maybe Santa, they don't appear, and Ponies are treated as the in-universe equivalent? I'm just saying, if I made a multigeneration crossover, I'd leave the human(oid)s besides EG out just for continuity's sake. Not saying that you or anyone else has to.

Sorry I didn't notice this sooner, but this was a great job on Megan's file in your universe. I have to admit that I don't mind one bit the thought of humans and humanoids having a long forgotten history with the ponies (some good [like Megan and her siblings] and some bad [like Hydia and her daughters]).

Thanks. A human being involved in the creation of Equestria is why Equestria has a similar calender system to ours.

Interesting world building to tie G1 in with G4.

Will the Equestria Girls stuff be bringing up later on how the very founding ancestors of Equestria are from the human world? Heck, is the Megan from Rollercoaster of Friendship associated with Megan Williams (either as a reincarnation or descendant) in any way?
