The Way of Water Leads to One Beautiful Splash · 5:17am Dec 18th, 2022
Hello everyone,
I just came back from watching Avatar: The Way of Water.
And much like the first one, there's one main word I can describe it as: though I think Countess Coloratura puts it best:
That's right, Avatar: The Way of Water is a Spectacle; with amazing graphics, incredible visual story-telling, and animation that blew my mind.
My mother's a diver, and even she said that experiencing the underwater world of Pandora was similar to one of her diving trips. With the added benefit of getting to interact with fantastical creatures that looked right at home with creatures from the Jurassic.
Granted, the writer in me did notice things that could have been improved on. There were several plot-threads that seemed to go nowhere (the anime-savvy part of me tensed when one character was told they couldn't utilize a technique again without severe harm to their body... only for them to utilize said technique later without any negative reprecussions), and I did wish that a few of the characters had more time to show off their personalities the way Auramastermg, Ragnarok17, The Kelduo, Chill Author and all of my other friends and I could do in the Friendship is Awesomeness Forum.
That being said, some of the characters did still manage to steal the show, like Kiri, a young Na'vi with a very interesting connection to Pandora and by extension Eywa, or Spider, a human raised among the Na'vi Tarzan style. I don't want to delve too deep into spoilers, but I will say that their subplots had me fully invested and wanting to know more about what happened to them and how they handled the obstacles ahead of them.
Overall, the movie was a fine successor to it's sequel; with all the flash and glam I would expect from an Avatar film. James Cameron mentioned how he needs this movie to make it big at the box office so he can break even and continue the franchise, and I hope he succeeds in his goal. This series has plenty more of Pandora to explore, and I'd definitely pay for another ticket to see what else the world has to offer.
Thank you for your time.
I didn't know your mom is a diver cause according to your website, you grown up with a military family.
Well, I glad you and your mom enjoyed the movie.

Thanks.
And yeah, my dad was in the military, while my mom and I followed him around. But my Mom's always loved the sea, and whenever she gets a chance, she loves to go diving.
Though I guess a better choice of words would be that she 'swims as a hobby' or something like that.
i dislike the avatar films because all of the stuff that happened could have been avoided if one guy just did his job

Understandable. And I'll admit, the sequel won't make anything better in that regard, as our guy who had one job has pretty much left that job behind for good.
While the spectacle and visual will please some audiences, anyone who wants a deeper story and better fleshed out characters would do better looking to other forms of media.
Thank you for sharing your thoughts on the franchise, and I hope that you have a good day regardless.
