Orange Islands was a minor League. He became Champion, but I don't think that he was at the level of real Champions like Lance.

Oh man, I haven't even been able to watch it since I don't have Netflix! Instead, I've been catching up on Pokemon Journeys with the Pokemon TV app.

But anyway, Ash Ketchum has finally become the very best, like no one ever was. The only question left is, what will happen now that he's the world champion? Will the anime continue to follow him as he travels to the Paldea region, or will he perhaps visit the Isle of Armor or Crown Tundra...

Or will the anime follow another, new protagonist wanting to be the best?

From what I saw in the preview of the next episode, he is going on a journey with other people to find a Mew in an island. Not sure if this will last only one episode or a whole new season like with the Orange Islands and the Battle Frontier.

What do you mean? I mean, he won the World Championship where he had to battle the Champions. He won against Steven, Cynthia, and especially Leon who was said to be the most powerful, undefeatable Pokémon trainer of the world. If after that he isn't Pokémon Master, then I don't know what it will take to become one.

There are more than one Pokémon multiverse. The anime's multiverse is a different one from the game's multiverse. The anime's Arceus is still alive and isn't as powerful as the one in the story.
