Seems fitting that two days before my 16th birthday I'd finally read Cupcakes for the first time. Yes, that cupcakes.

Y'know maybe I should really start rethinking my late night strategies because this seems to be working better than expected.

Huh, I read it back almost ten years ago. Damn, I feel old.

Though, looking back, I don't remember it having more substance than the gore and shock. But many of the recursive material (I remember a couple of ask blogs) went into more interesting directions similar to Sweney Todd or Dexter.

I mean on an objective level you're definitely correct, no person (or pony for that matter) with that level of insanity would be able to keep up such a facade. Typically crimes like this could often be explained with ASPD, but those people tend to either be charming (Ted Bundy) or a blatant life of crime. Then again, cartoons need not follow all the ins and outs of real world.

Guessing this was written around the time Party of One first aired.

If I recall correctly (remember to check TV Tropes later), it actually came out before. You can see vestiges of it with Pinkie remaining chipper through the original fic and that the earliest fanart didn't portray her with the trademark straight mane from Party of One.

I think the ones that stuck the most were specifically the ones that committed to insanity. I remember one in particular that was pretty much a comedy, with the killings being more of a background a la Johnny the Homicidal Maniac or Rick and Morty. Or others that even went on the direction that pretty much the entire Mane Six being all psycho killers, and Equestria at large functioning as a horror movie world.

I'm pretty sure there's one in particular where Pinkamena (Pinkie with straight hair and Cupcakes personality) wakes up in the future cybernetically enhanced a la Jason X.

Oh, and my favorite ones used to be where it's all a meta joke, like Pinkie and Rainbow being actresses on an Alfred Hitchcock movie, or it all being a horror story by Rainbow Dash that got overblown.

Cupcakes, Rainbow Factory, Lil Miss Rarity, Pages of Harmony, Murdershy... I never remember the one for Applejack except an askblog where she was the only who wasn't a psycho and tried to balance that with all of her friends being ones, but I'm pretty sure that was more in the vein if comedy.
