This is a story about a sheep. A little sheep, locked deep in prison, put there by ponies. He doesn't want to be there, but then he's had to do a lot of things he doesn't want to. It's a shame he deserves to be in there.

I truly wonder if we're ever going to get an explanation for why Prey dislikes being touched so much. It seems like a very irrational thing, but it might have something to do with him being a mind leech. Maybe when he touches someone, he gets more access to their thoughts than he'd like? Or is it because they're ponies and he's disgusted by them? That doesn't seem to be it either, since I'm almost entirely certain he's reacted similarly to other species touching/almost touching him. I find it odd but fitting, can't wait to see if it'll ever be expanded upon.

I always assumed it was a byproduct of the cruelty and abuse he suffered in the resistance. Although there is a chance there was a more specific traumatic incident which has lead to this fear of touching. Like he had to hide in a pile of the dead or something.
well that's one way to escape Luna, hide on a anti magic island, their plan kind of reminds me of the that movie "The Village" in a way.
Though whether or not they will survive what lies there is another story.
In any event it looks like Gloom/ Crimson are injured and unless those plants in the wagon can do any healing Prey will have to somehow drag them to relative safety.
Also when Luna hears about this debacle I'd put money on her starting some shit like making the ISND or night guard try and enter the Isle of Dove, or something equally ludicrous and pig headed.
So Clan Myrrdon gets the last laugh. Kind of fitting. It's unfair, cruel, and evil, and they get away with it. They made a deal, immediately backstabbed, and lost nothing (save for the two warriors Prey killed). The prophecies do seem to be accurate, as they predict things we know will happen thanks to the show, so Myrrdon will probably make it to their promised land.
And Crimson and Gloom are nearly killed, with Prey unable to fight back. That is perhaps the most infuriating thing: that Myrrdon will be beyond reproach. Sure, Equestria could start building catapults or other siege weapons to fling rocks at The Cliffs of Dove, but why would they? Equestrians wouldn't pursue vengeance for the sake of vengeance, not to mention the fact that this is Crimson's fight, not theirs. From the pony's perspective, Myrrdon just removed themselves as a problem.
Or their promised land is the afterlife, and they all die. That seems a bit too grim, but it's still possible.
The word "every" here is quite foreboding.
Thematically speaking, if they succeed, it fits with the theme of letting go of vengeance; Crimson and Prey will not be able to hurt them for what they did, and will be completely powerless in this light.
If they fail, it fits with the theme of being unable to escape authority; the thestrals are attempting to fulfill what was Prey's lifelong dream: escaping the damned ponies. By failing and dying, it once again shows that you can't just run from and ignore the source of your problems, namely out-of-touch-immortal-royalty.
11128887
It was explicitly stated that it's because he can kill with a single touch. That made his mind equate being touched with instant death, and the phobia took root and never left him.
Nature does not care... Isn't that the truth.
Very good chapter, definitely some issues that needs to be edited.
How will Prey get out of this one? He's mind killed three ponies so far. Two intentionally and one accidentally.
But we don't know what errand he sent the other one on...
Those messengers were probably to call off their ambush and explain the deal they had made.
But due to Prey basically mind-raping them, they couldn't deliver, and so the ambush continued as planned.
So changelings or diamond dogs?
Well it definitely seemed to bite him in the ass alot like killing the Diamond Dogs.

In answer: It is sort of covered; a) yes, it is because Prey is afraid of getting hurt. Torment, Stinger, and Razor from the Resistance took sadistic pleasure in hurting not just Prey, but everyone. 😟
b) It is also partly because of how Prey can mind-kill with a touch. It makes him doubly afraid, because he now knows how lethal just a single touch can be, and also, he doesn't want to accidently mind-kill anyone he doesn't mean to. Like Crimson, or Gloom, or in any situation where there are witnesses. "All it takes is a single touch, after all." 💀
Prey still has a broken tool. Prey still knows how to alter the weather towers controls. The clan would not have left any pony behind, and Prey could easily doom them all, and likely would, if he thought he could.
I kinda hope he does, but the collateral will be even higher if he does.
11128947
Lose-lose. There is no good outcome for anyone who isn't Clan Myrrdon. As you very accurately said, either they're helpless to take revenge, or there is no escape. And whatever the outcome, it will apply to Prey too in the end.
Quote: "There's a happy ending to all of this, right?" "...Not likely, no."
It's, well, I don't want to say it's all downhill from here, because it isn't, but, batten down the hatches.
Also, correct about the touch thing. 😊
11128904
'Thestrals just wanna' be safe from Loony-Luna.' Some might even say they're the sensible ones.
11128977
Yea, when creating a new home for your civilization from scratch on an unknown island, you're left in a very vulnerable place, two saboteurs could very well doom them all, and considering that they ambushed Gloom and Crimson especially, Prey might decide to do exactly that.
11128947
dont think they intentionally backstabbed them i think the ones prey encountered and obliterated were giving the message to call of the ambush, prey unintentionally sabotaged himself .
and with life not being fair i bet the lands the clan goes to will be barren and not support life, a tomb of clan Myrrdon own making
Boy do I hope that Mr. Bat Soilder can join under Lemon as L'air security.
Injured ISND , they need a safe place but where when the storm is upon them.
And the extra Thestral Prey send back with a mission. I'd guess to kill Nexus Blaze with some kind of mind trigger.
Or mess with the weather tower to kill them all when the storm control goes haywire.
My bits are on the first option tho, seems more likely to succeed.
Safest place might be a train wagon that might or might not be runes up to remain stable.
11128989
Quite possible. Prey accidentally digging his own grave is another theme repeated often, so that theory sounds 100% correct.
That wall makes me think about two things
One it is there to keep whatever is in there behind that wall,
Or Two whatever is in there put that wall up to keep everyone else out from there
"Prey's deceit and lines"
You mean lies right?
"Why do you think Clan Myrradon is going to that island? No income taxes."

Do note the name Selenia itself, it is old word which is related to the moon.
http://www.thinkbabynames.com/meaning/0/Selenia
But also there might be additional meanings to be found since there is a moth out there which some call 'Lunar Thorn'.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Selenia_lunularia
https://www.ukmoths.org.uk/species/selenia-lunularia/
Going a bit schitzo one might also make a parallel with what you were saying about about the connections to the weaving and sewing. Moths also are known to lay eggs in clothing so if one went really all in on it there would be really dark implications on why group of sheeps who are named after sewing would be connected to someone called Selenia, specially since the reality seems to be stitched together here, and that there are things beyond and between.
But yeah that would be way too paranoid.
I'm going out on a limb with the whole 3rd of a 3rd thing. There's probably going to be about 400 dead thestrals. Also Prey may have rigged the mind broken thestral as a bone rot mine.
Error Report
Prey barely
resisted(registered) their continued presence. They consisted of wo pegasi adults,
as a bride to break through the anti-magic (Bridge?)
Didn't get to finish due to work. But thanks for chapter.
everyone asks about the series but nobody asks about the creator . How are you sir or lady who created this fanfic ?
11128948
I bet he sent the other one to sabotage the weather tower. The Myrrdon Clan needs it to be operating in order for their plan to succeed.
If so, then not only will Prey get the last laugh, but the prophesy will take a grim turn just as KKSlider suggested.
These cliffs are going to be the death of me.
11129152
I could very easily see that... good point. Time will tell, another two weeks before we get another chapter!
Theres a part of me that wonders whether a society used to controlling the very weather to suit their needs would be able to even survive in a place with a different climate that they've not been to before and that they probably won't be able to influence to the same degree. And then I remember there's probably at least one bright spark in their number that has an appropriate cutie mark to find some new crops.
But hoo, Clan Myrrdon is a bunch of bastards. I'm sorry that Crimson might not get a chance to do as Prey suggested, because if there was ever someone who deserves it, its anyone who had a hand in what happened here.

Hello, and thanks. This chapter has not been completely edited and ironed out yet. But it was getting late and I did not want to wait until Monday to post. When it is fully edited, I will mark it in the Authors Notes. But definitely thanks! 😁
11129141
Um, I'm generally doing fine, thanks? 😅 I am healthy, not in financial difficulty, or in danger, so therefore I am one of the privileged, lucky ones.
Yeah. He will probably sabotage the tower.
Or better yet, Prey programmed him to return to his clan, find Nexus, and get that revenge, all for Crimson.
So, no matter the outcome, everyone somewhat loses. Some more, some less.
...Bueno.
11129045
Or it is Celestias and Lunas Summer Resort that they dont want Mortals treading upon
Reinforcements are always just a bit too far away to be of any use. Of course, that's probably a good thing, else they'd have ended up with a full ass battle, outnumbered as hell.
'For a dove of peace, the third-of-the-last-third shall seek. And the third-of-the-last-third descendants of Myrr shall find the last promised land. What is given shall no more be taken from Myrr's descendants. So it is written by the passing stars. For as surely as night comes out of day, the hoof of both day and night must no longer bare sway over the third-of-the-last-third. A promised land where wealth follows storms, and gaia gladly gives. There they shall rest from every toil and care.'
Hmm, so many outcomes, so many possibilities, so many interpretations for this one.
Dove of peace ? well a dove is white, and it flies, Prey just has a thrall now.
In the last promised land, there's... "last". It's pretty obvious it's not going to just be home.
Wealth is a bit tricky, it can be a tresured possession, such as life... going to a new earth where"gaia glady gives" well...
Honestly I think the prophecy can be about Crimson, we know he's half thesral, there's maybe more to reduce his 50% to a mere 30% ? He can be the dove of peace too if we're considering this is not a bad omen, maybe ?
But there's more, if the land has no magic, there's no harmony.
When there's no harmony, as we saw with Discord in the show, ponies just give up everything, fall into depression in short.
Whatever the case, I don't think they're going to survive this, even if they maange to cross the wall.
Everyone think the Myrrdon tool is going to sabotage the tower, I think it's not the case:
First, it's too late for that, the storm is already there, by the time he arrives, he wouldn't have the time to do anything
Second, he can't just magically give an inate knowledge of how it works, filter it to someone else, and do it remotly
Third, the tower is already broken, it gave away seconds before Prey managed to do anything, probably a sabotage from the clan too
Fourth, it's not efficient, what would a single (when two of them left) come back, act as if nothing happen and just say "I need to check this for reasons" (IF it's possible for him to talk normally)
So yeah, I think he has a simple order: go back home (he has the knowledge) report to Nexus, telling the mission was a catastrophic failure due to the weather (in order to not link Prey with the event) and just stick a knife inside Nexus' skull, it's pretty easy in this scenario, since he's an elder that will want to hear the report of the last survivor, and the puppet doesn't need to come back alive.
Now we wait for the reinforcements, and I'm already building my frustration because there would be a single doctor (of course) and now there are two heavily wounded characters, and the useless guard will want to call dibs on him.
Lambsy, darling, I love your work, but please, give them a break, come on you big plushie...
Great chapter, loved the action in this one, the very short sentences for the tempo were spot on, good job.
11129594
I don't think Prey is psychotic enough to intentionally kill entire thestral clan; at least as long as Crimson lives. Seriously, Equestria is so lucky to give ISND fancy new armor, sheep warlock going postal would cause much damage.
At first, I thought he meant whether he'd regret what he was about to do to these two specific Thestrals...
Now I'm thinking he means the entire clan.
Prey may not even have to lift a hoof for mass death on Myrrdon's part. This storm riding scheme is bat shit crazy.
11128989
I don't think that is true though since both guards had their mind invaded by prey to the extent they were taken control of and we saw that prey learned many details of the life of one guard at least. Though maybe we will learn next chapter that prey saw something and thought it was unrelated, we do wait in suspense a lot for prey never fully tells us everything.
11129835
Was that pun intentional?
11129982
Of course! Puns are a key part of the fun in this setting.
11129691
I wonder why after the first few times Luna or Night Hawk haven't just assigned a subordinate squad to the ISND. The ISND are an elite unit of investigators and they tend to find some extreme trouble. It'd be pretty easy to justify giving them some underlings to act as muscle. They wouldn't be part of the squad like Lily or Scenic, instead they'd be part of another squad who just shadows the ISND and can be thrown at any problem that requires bodies. I guess the Night Guard is still stretched thin. But you'd think that if you have a group of people that's this supernaturally good at getting into trouble you'd commit some of your resources.
11131114
What do you mean? They got a whole squad of regular guards to throw at their problems this mission! It just seems their problems are always bigger than they can manage with what they have.
11131114
Cue the most uneventful mission the ISND goes on.
11132017
Kind of like how the capturing of the foreign griffin went? The only thing that went wrong was Crimson getting sick. It was the only mission that had thestral backup.
Something me and the boys were talking about in the Unofficial Prey Discord Server™ was House Fell. More and more, it seems connected to a lot of events in the story, even in the most tangential of ways. Honestly, it was probably mentioned at least once in every arc, save for the first?
It's hard to recall all of their instances of interaction with Prey/ISND, but it's probably numerous. They were even involved with the investigation of the Mayflower disappearances.
Chapter 37
I'm sure that if I took the time, I could find connections across all of this story's one million word length. They seem to be in the shadows, just barely involved. More and more, I'm becoming convinced that we will be seeing more of them in the future. They're shaping up to have a big role in Prey and a Lamb, there's just too many mentions and connections for that not to be the case.
The quote also gives evidence to the theory that Strange Happenstance is an agent of theirs, as he had knowledge of the disappearances. Him being a Fell agent also paves the way for introducing them as major players in the story.
My/our theories have been wrong before, and it's easy to mix up and forget info in a story this long, but I have a feeling this is important information being slipped past us.
11132910
yo could u send me the discord link? I want in on that.
11132910
It is possible that Fells are ones responsible for Resistance conflict. Hardened mercenaries don't appear from nowhere just to help people, after all.
11132910
Wait, there's a Discord server for this story!?
Where?! Who are you working for?! What is the code!? Where is she!?
