This is a story about a sheep. A little sheep, locked deep in prison, put there by ponies. He doesn't want to be there, but then he's had to do a lot of things he doesn't want to. It's a shame he deserves to be in there.

Didn't expect an update today, but happy to see it!
Runny fecal matter is spraying into the rotational device in a growing stream, I see.
Ponies being snatched in the dead of night, strange weather, weird markings, and a perpetually growing sense of doom. Business as usual for the ISND.
How traditional
Even more mysteries, well whatever awesome job, and keep up the great work.
Another great chapter, and way earlier than expected.
Its really interesting to see the affects Prey had on the lives of others.
This mystery is growing ever more complicated, although I have a feeling they are at least a little relived to not have to deal with the sheriff anymore.
I really hope the reinforcements would come. I really want to see how the isnd would operate with more genuine help at their disposal.
every storm, a household disappears (excluding alto the first time)
so either some beast with control of the storms that kidnaps people
or a sentient with storm control
Merry Christmas everybody!
My favorite present this year is a new chapter of Prey and a Lamb
There is a link in the disappearances. They are all of people of high import regarding the town’s organisation and preparation for threats without and within. This smells like invasion coming.
Me when the new Prey and a Lamb chapter drops on Christmas:
Amazing Christmas gift!
A couple of things people haven’t fully picked up. For one,
There’s been a lot of mentions of Prey’s distrust of water. Anything could be in there. As well as that, people are only going missing when or where there’s a lot of water around, in the air even- the heavy rains, or just after them. LP I’ve seen likes to leave clues here and there, and that line sticks out to me. (The salt might mean something, might not. If something came from the sea, it’d bring the saltwater with it…)
And that brings me on to the second thing, and my crackpot theory on it all: It’s pretty much a completely earth pony town, and so far all the outliers to that have been the targets. The only unicorns. The only pegasi. The only thestrals and lamb. Lumber and the deputies might just be collateral damage. The Royal Guards could presumably be next. Most importantly, these issues only started when Discord broke free.
So yeah. My pet theory is that maybe Discord breaking free reactivated some old deal with a natural or supernatural power or entity/entities, maybe with whatever caused the marefolk/merfolk legend. An old deal that the townsfolk made back in the Age of Discord/pre-unification for protection. The deal being made so long ago that nobody remembers it… except those with which the deal was struck, made so long ago that only a vague community memory remains that the sigils are *important* for protection from, or by, the sea… or the things in it. Protection from back when the unicorns and pegasi were enemies (or, anything not an earth pony was a threat.)
As for the cliffs, I still maintain that it’s probably a scaled-up runic null zone, with ponykind’s ignorance of any powers not gifted by direct magic or Harmony making them unable to figure it out, for their hubris as being the most magically gifted race means they’ll never think to look for what they don’t already know to look for, as who’s as magical as them? Nothing out there could match up, and all would be within their domain. Why even bother to -or how could they even realise to- think about something outside that?
Or maybe I’ll be proved completely wrong on every count the next time I get sent a chapter to edit , I’ll have fun either way.
Edit: I don’t think it would just be the racist townsfolk targeting the outsiders, as not only would Prey likely have picked up on thoughts about that by now, but only the pegasi were ever actually disliked by the earth ponies, and that ethnic tension was caused because they were as dumb as a box of rocks and twice as useless- (the whole family was said to be like Alto) -refusing to do anything about the storms even as they ravaged the town to bits. The town liked the unicorns in the lighthouse, and even though they were scared of the ISND, they seemed to accept they were here to help. Why target them?
And so things intensify... Thankfully backup is on the way!
I am sure nothing terrible will happen.
With saffron and lily's thoughts done I imagine we will see scenic's/cartons thoughts next chapter. It honestly has been very calm compared to constant threats in other arcs, though I am quite sure there will be danger in the next chapter since the big thing being shown is that nighthawk promising to be on time and the guard is never on time one way or another.
Also besides Luna and the writers hand I do think that preys life could be manipulated by a greater force. I am thinking it is that piece of unreality he has locked inside of himself like some bad luck or manipulationof fate. We have heard about it in mayflower where there was mention of something that would kill everyone and when prey was forced into sensory deprivation by discord. Though I am unsure of the event where prey almost used the witch pincushion. Though maybe I am overthinking things since I don't know what it is besides being a hungry thing.

The pin cushion he involuntarily used the one pin charge it had re-charged when he was drowning in the stream. With Luna in Ponyville. He wished in desperation to get to the stream bank, and it answered. Although the how he hasn't discovered. 😟

"For you this is a disaster. For me it is Tuesday."
(The quote went something like that)
Yay this is a nice present just in time for xmas.
*call of Cthulhu vibes strengthen*

Merry Christmas to everyone too. Hopefully.

Not agreeing or denying anything, aside from the last 3rd note you made correct. About how the earth ponies of Haven Hay aren't overly racist. They hated the Heights , but only because of the storms. But they didn't hate the unicorn lighthouse keepers who did their job.

Just another Tuesday…
Great chapter,
I really like the small windows onto how the "sidecharacters" view their interactions with the ISND.
Things are getting hairy, weird stuff snatching people during storms. On day, one night till renforcements.
But our heros how long a night can be since the Wolfing Wood. And Preys helpful waterzombies and lemon are the renforcements that are already there, in case Prey gets spooked enough.
Also, Merry Christmas, a bit late :D
Thanks for sharing joy with us with this story.
Welp, it looks like Luna is going to show up and make things worse.

I'm just waiting for the ISND to be staring down some clearly eldritch being with too eyes, mouths, teeth and tentacles, the new recruits are freaking out and Crimson and Gloom are just completely jaded, like they're saying "Oh look, another horrifying thing that should not be. Do we kill it with fire, silver arrowheads or bonerot bombs this time?"
11095817
Also exited for ISND using some proper guards to get stuff done.
But there are a lot of Squall and a long night until they come at the earliest.
The Wolfing Wood night was also only one night... That lasted a long time
Ah, finally caught up with this one, felt good after this hectic time of the year.
This chapter is as interesting as the others, there's just so many elements it's impossible to know which ones serve as foreshadowing or are just "useless" details.
We have a huge emphasis on the deep water, the storm and the reinforcements.
But all of this is seen through Prey, and he is as unreliable as he can be.
Tomorrow (I wish) reinforcements will be here, it's the occasion to have a known character I guess, because too many new faces would just be a setup for a battle royale style where only the "best team will survive". Hah
I bet on something going really wrong, but that's a given.
Let's go crazy, I say Lemon Pink will be on board, a convenient giveaway of her relationship with Prey thanks to the same smell of blood
Didn't expect this to update on Christmas . Now that's dedication!
Calling it now... Crab-ponies
Yeah, ponies understand that Prey is in the ISND, but they don't understand that he really is a member, or even an integral part of the ISND.
They don't connect the horror the ISND has went through with Prey because they don't understand that he really is literally a part of the ISND, not just on paper.
So, if I am to hazard a guess as to what the connection between the three missing parties is, that guess would have to be that they are all crucial to maintaining the operation of the town. The weather patrol and watch house don't need to be elaborated on, and the lighthouse is a focal point for the town's economy. On top of this, it also had the only two unicorns in the town, which, in and of itself is extremely useful. My guess is that the next to go missing would be the doctor, harbormaster, and the owner of the general store, in that order, given that it is not resolved before then.
I haven't started reading this, but I plan on it and have only heard good things. I wanted to say that I admire what you've done here. For your first story on here, though I assume you've done others elsewhere, over 1 million words over the course of roughly three years is very impressive. A lot of writers would get burnt out on a story long before reaching this point, especially for an oc focused fic like this. I can tell you're very passionate about it without even having to start yet, writers like you are what I love about this site.

Well, thank you for the compliment. 😊 I am privileged to be able to say that I find writing both fun and enjoyable.
Likely not the case but this might make for a nice switch and bait. Dangling portents of doom and then making it all a big misunderstanding oozing with harmony and friendship.

Uhhhhh... I think it's safe to say I don't even remember enough of those specific chapters to make a proper reply. I hardly remember making that old comment. But did I seriously comment that?
Honestly, this is probably one of the fastest updating stories, at a near rough amount of 10k words every two weeks. Heck, the only thing that still stands in that comment is that, because the arcs are particularly long, if it's one you don't particularly like you're stuck with it for a while until the next arc starts.
11110157
Nah. There have definately been highlights and lowlights but nothing to get me to stop reading. I am genuinely hoping that Prey eventually tells Crimson all of his story. It would be a great moment of character development. If this has already happened dont ruin it for me. I just got into the fifth arc.
11110304
I believe he has enough Crimson points to avoid getting Bad End immediately, if he does it just right. Not his usual "I'm a mind leech, unrepentant mass murderer, and I accidentally genocide! Do you love me?" monologue, that's just conscience's way to make him suffer.
Ok boys, it's time to start refreshing,

They went over the whole "Sargeant" vs "Sargant" thing years ago. He spells it like they pronounce it.
The author is British. They are the exception to Mark Twain's famous epigram "Foreigners always spell better than they pronounce".
