In the early hours of this morning, the total number of public stories on Fimfiction passed 150,000. There have been plenty more than that, of course, excess from delisted and removed stories – though not nearly the 540K you’d guess from the URL IDs, many of which are generated by a user but never have a chapter actually uploaded or published – but it’s an impressive total no matter what way you spin it.

It was for the best to take Author Spotlights off a set schedule. The last few in June, when they were almost done, came out far better for it, with fics chosen for that purpose and reaching a conclusion about the author’s style over the “eh, five fics that happen to be written by the same guy, why not” approach prior. Some time away reinvigorated the approach, so by that same criteria, here it returns, with Lucky Dreams.

All the recent Everfree Northwest blogs have reminded me that UK PonyCon is fast approaching. I’ve been all booked for months now, but with it only six weeks away, I'm starting to get excited again. Too soon? Mayhaps, but I am an easily excitable spirit, least for the right things. Two weeks ago it dawned on me that, with July 10^th having landed on a Monday this year, I’d missed a prime opportunity for a themed throwback feature on that day. As July 10^th is the day Fimfiction was launched in Beta, I could have had a week themed around the site’s 12^th anniversary. The bad news is I missed my chance. The good news is, with today being July 31^st, it’s prime for an even better celebration of the site’s twelve years.

I have quite the habit of timing my finishing of a video game – be that the main campaign, 100%’ing it, or just to the goal or stop point that I’m satisfied with: whatever I’m gunning for at the time – right as the next game that will be my big one for a while comes out. I’m sure that’s hardly unique, many folks probably do the same, especially when direct sequels of the game they’re currently playing are on the horizon. But it can take many forms, I find.
