There's a certain feeling you get when all the phones in the house start screeching, and then the windows rattle in their frames as something really big goes close overhead. I answered one phone while grabbing my go-bag with the other hand. The wife stuffed the cat into a carrier and yelled for the dogs to go to the car. We heard the *whump* of a distant explosion and the lights and fans cut out.

Well, they technically only took 2nd place in the annual event, but that year a bunch of fillies in a flower-covered balloon entered with a water-balloon chucker and suction cup tipped darts. The Townies all agreed that that was cheating, but they gave the little girls the first place trophy anyway. Being a Twilight Town event, the "rules" were only suggestions, anyway.

I hope all of you fellow Yanks had a very enjoyable 4th of July weekend!

We usually get together with friends for a big BBQ party at one of the local lakes, but this year... Too hot, too smoky, too crowded, and generally too much to deal with. Our young dog got bitten by a rattlesnake on Wednesday, and he's still convalescing, so he's not much in the mood to swim, chase balls, or cage hotdog ends from the kids, either. We decided on a quiet 4th at home, and it was unexpectedly nice.
