To create an avatar, go to the top of your screen. Do you see your name on the green bar? Hover your mouse on it. When you do, a drop-down menu appears, and clicking "Edit Avatar" takes you to the avatar upload menu. First, click the "Choose File" button and select the file from your hard drive that you wish to use as the avatar. Make sure that it isn't too large a file (both in terms of memory, which is 1MB, and pixel width and height) and that it is a common file type (.jpg or .png). Last, hit the green "Upload Avatar" button and you should be good to go.
