Celestia is neither tyrant nor incompetent. She, in fact, is a model leader. She rules from a distance, allowing her subjects to work out things among themselves. She delegates, always knowing the correct task for the correct pony (90% of the time the correct pony is Twilight Sparkle, but if you were besties with Twilight Sparkle you'd call her all the time too). In The Married Life of Cadence and Shining Armor, Cadence's origin is no longer compatible with the Crystal Heart Spell book. She was raised from the age of six by Celestia rather than being raised by Earth Ponies.

He has a shield spell that can defend an entire city.
He powered half of a spell that drove back an army.
He went up against Sombra, and though wounded, managed to repel him while also defending his sister and her friends.
He is Captain Shining Armor.

(Some might argue with me about whether Shiny beat Sombra, but if your enemy runs away you're winning.)

I know it's been a while, but I haven't abandoned that story. I have a new chapter planned in my head. Basically, the story's divided into different arcs. The Canterlot Arc when they were still hanging out in Canterlot. That one is over and so is the bliss of the Honeymoon. Now they have to face Sombra. The Crystal Empire Arc is what earned the story the dark tag (it won't be too dark at the conclusion, promise.) After the Crystal Empire Arc, there's going to be a Vacation Arc.
