It is a good and noble thing to tell a good story.
I really like that comic, it's now my new headcanon where Aj's hat comes from. Where Big Mac got said hat, that's a different story. Maybe I'll write it one day.
I generally don't give story updates because I think it's counterproductive but here's where I stand on my three non-hatius works.
So Nonpareil Fiction, the group I admin for, has re-jiggered its rules etc and is looking for members and stories. Groups are only successful if they have active participants, so if you'd like your stories judged by some other people, (one of them being me), or you might want to enter a contest or if you just want to find some stories that have passed at least a moderately stringent review process, swing on by and say hello.
If you can't be bothered to look up a word in a dictionary, pick up a thesaurus, or spend time mulling the perfect word to craft your narrative, you are not a prose stylist. You're a hack. -Constance Hale
I was cruising the forums and Obsolescence posted this.
It makes a good point. I'm not saying criticism is bad, authors need criticism to point out their flaws. But I'm forced to consider that being nice, even when the work is questionable, is probably the best way to go about it.
A story.
I wandered into a flame war the other day, because Mama didn’t raise no fool I wisely stayed out of it. But I was profoundly annoyed by what was going on. Because it wasn’t a case of two idiots throwing poop, it was the kind of thing that is bad for our little corner of the internet.
I suppose a few things are worth mentioning.
Some of you reading this are authors, and some are not, if you are permit me to offer you the following piece of advice regarding sadisms.
Before I continue, I know I don’t rise to the level of master of the written word, so easy on the ad hominem attacks, but this is still good advice.
All across writing guides, along with “Show, don’t tell,” and in this fandom, “Avoid Lavender Unicorn Syndrome,” is the sage counsel “Be careful with sadisms”.
I've noticed some people write lots of blogs, some people don't write any. Would y'all like more blogs from me? The same amount? (So not very many at all?) If I did blog more what should I blog about? I'm just curious what people think about blogs on this site.
