Equestrian Rails, or: What My Sleeping Mind Comes Up With · 8:29am Oct 28th, 2014
Last night, I dreamed of ponies. To be more precise, I dreamed of a pony-themed railroad-builder computer RPG.
Hi! I'm Lurks-no-More: a pony writer, RPG player, SF and fantasy fan, and a general nerd. I hope you enjoy my stories!
Last night, I dreamed of ponies. To be more precise, I dreamed of a pony-themed railroad-builder computer RPG.
Another year has passed, and I'm a little more mature, a little older, and still don't feel like a real, serious adult person. It's interesting: I think my self-image has stopped aging somewhere in my early twenties, and though the years have passed, the "real me" remains young inside my head. Perhaps it's all the associating with students and RPGers and cosplayers, or perhaps it's the rejuvenating essence of ponies; perhaps it's the way the modern life keeps you from settling down into a rut
As set out by bookplayer in his her blog, here! Oops. My apologies on getting your gender wrong, bookplayer!
The Princesses:
1. How old are Celestia and Luna?
Once again, an enjoyable pony episode! It made me realize that Applejack acts much more like a mother towards her little sister Applebloom, than Twilight Sparkle acts towards Spike, despite being his guardian and the pony who hatched him in the first place.
If you have noticed a sudden influx of stories about Twilight eating a peach, it's all because of Obsolescence.
Dear everyone who is going around gushing about how S4E1 implies that the whole of the show has taken place over a single year: You. Are. Bucking. Wrong.
No one was making that claim before Princess Twilight Sparkle, Part 1. It's positively a purely post-premiere pony phenomenon! So what has made people change their minds, then? Simple: they believe Princess Celestia said that this is the first Summer Sun Celebration since Luna's return.
Actually, the title is misleading. I liked almost everything in the episode, except the fact that it was an episode. (My favorite moment: Rainbow Dash out-nerding Twilight Sparkle in a Daring Do fan argument. Pure gold!) It was, for me at least, much less than the sum of its parts.
When I arrived at FIMFiction, the first story I posted was The Running of Lyra, a funny little story about Lyra and Bon-Bon, and how they handle Lyra's decision to participate in the Running of the Leaves, running on her hind legs. It remains one of my personal favorites, and I've been very happy with the reader reactions.
... perchance to use it?
So, as everyone who's following me has undoubtedly noted, I haven't been writing anything lately. It's a problem. I'm not giving up on ponies or anything, I merely have a very annoying writer's block that manifests as apathy and inability to sit down and write. My apologies for that.
It's especially annoying, because I have a couple of half-finished stories that are begging to be let out and to be read, and I can't get to finishing them.
By now, if you haven't heard the latest uproarious news, you're living under a rock without internet connection and thus are obviously not reading this blog post, so screw any spoiler warnings.
