Prologue
As the time for morning arrives, so does the ball of fire being guided by its Princess, light passes through the windows making the bookshelves, tables and a wooden stallion head statue visible around the library. Yet even though the light reaches the librarian's eyes, it was not enough to distract her from the levitating book which fascinated the librarian through the whole night. The book which was sent to her by her mentor, Princess Celestia. Even though the book was not as long and full of words compared to countless thick books that she had studies, the mysterious pictures and the descriptions kept her occupied. The pictures in the book were some kind of gemstones which had magical properties that she had never seen before. The book confused her more when she tried to find other books for reference, yet she never found anything else that describes the magical gemstones. She levitated a cup of coffee beside her and drank the last sip from the cup. She slowly settled the cup down and magically flipped the page of the book to read its final sentences.

Even if the shards were separated from one another, the shards were able to give off its magical enchantments to its wielders. Thousands of these shards were mostly scattered around Equestria, land of the ponies. A few have been found in its neighboring countries such as the tribes of the Zebras, the kingdoms of the Griffons and the nests of the Changelings. Some of the archeologists were able to dig up these shards yet countless attempts have failed in unlocking the magical powers of the shards. But out of the many attempts, there was one researcher by the name Bright Brain who was able to unlock one of the mysteries of the shards. This was that the shards were able to affect unicorns more compared to earth ponies or pegasi. Even though this was progress to unlocking the mysteries of the shards, another mystery was still unsolved. Up until now researchers have never known the true wielder of the gems and the purpose for the breaking and spreading of the gems around the three nations.

"Wait, that's it? There has to be more, right?" the librarian groaned furiously as she slammed the book on the table, with her magical grip, out of her frustration.

The noise of the slam echoed through the library which woke up a sleeping baby dragon. "Huh? What?" the dragon rubbed his eyes and lethargically crawled out of his bed with his claw still holding the blanket. "Twilight? Have you been up all night again?"

"Oh, sorry Spike, I forgot that you were still asleep."

The dragon, still with sleepy eyes, set his sights on the book on the table, "Isn't that the book Princess Celestia sent you?" next he set his eyes on the side table with a number of empty coffee cups. "Wait, you spent one whole night just to read that one book?" the dragon asked with a confused face.

"Well the book has plenty of complicated information. It talks about many of Starswirl's spells and researches. It even talked about some magical gemstones which kept me all night studying." Twilight said with a hoof on her chin. She couldn't help but think about those gemstones that still questioned even the brightest unicorn in ponyville. Two thoughts occupied her mind. First, the information about the gemstones questioned her. What do those gems do? She took extra time to research anything about any magical gemstones, yet she found nothing in her library. It felt like the only book that had the information about the gems were the book that Princess Celestia sent, yet that book did not identify any useful facts. Second, she wondered why Princess Celestia would simply send her the book without any instructions. Many tests were sent to her already by the Princess, yet they always came with a separate letter that told her what to accomplish.

A long silence was finally broken by her assistant as he spoke up, "Why not just ask Princess Celestia about the book?"

The question was quickly answered by the unicorn, "No Spike, she sent this to me for a reason. I think that this is one of her tests about my progress with my magic studies."

"I still think you should ask Princess Celestia. I mean why would she just simply send this to you with no letter or anything else."

Twilight sighed in defeat. Even though she thinks Princess Celestia gave this as a test, it is quite odd that she would just simply send this book without any letter or instructions. "Alright fine. Take a note."

Dear Princess Celestia,

I am sorry to inform you that I have no idea on what I should accomplish according to the book that you sent me. If I may ask, would you mind sending me a letter to what I am suppose to do with the book?
You're faithful student,
Twilight Sparkle

"Faithful student, Twilight Sparkle. Done"

"Alright Spike, send it to the Princess." As Twilight gave the order to her number one assistant, the baby dragon rolled up the paper into a scroll, took a deep breath, and blew an enchanted green flame that sent the letter to Princess Celestia.

"Good. Now we just wait for the response from the Princess. I'm sure it won't take long until the Princess writes back to us. For now, I think we should just-" Twilight was interrupted by the dragon spiting out the same green flame but this time with a scroll that was embedded with the royal seal. "Excellent. That was quicker than I expected." Spike picked up and unrolled the scroll and read aloud the letter.

"Dear Twilight, My most faithful student,

Whatever do you mean Twilight? I never sent anything to you?
Signed ,
Princess Celestia"
